I recently went on a Leisuretime excursion with my family to Windsor and the Warner Brothers Tour London(Harry Potter). So I had purpose to stay at the Ramada Hatfield Hotel in Hertfordshire as it is in close proximity of both attractions. The hotel is in fact situated 20 miles from London and not far from Welwyn Garden City & St. Albans too. I am led to undertsand the hotel was formerly known as the Comet Hotel and is Grade II listed, which surprised me a little. My first impressions was that this was a pub with rooms added on later. Maybe the impression I got was due to the fact the place was quite busy upon arrival with a gypsy wedding going on in the function room and the coach party I was with was one of two checking in also. The hotel looked a little worn & dated from the outside but the interior proved to be a lot better. The hotel boasts nearly 130 rooms, all with en-suite bathroom/shower(v.small), TV, Internet access. The rooms were quite modern & clean with all mod cons i.e. hairdryer, iron, trouser press as well as the usual tea & coffee making facilities(with biccies, yay !) Room was quite spacious & comfortable. My only minor quibbles were the shower was not 100% functional — directional spray jets not working, shower head OK and I arranged for an alarm call for the following morning which never transpired — fortunately I was up early enough. Nothing to kick up a fuss about really in the scheme of things Having booked for half board I had an evening meal and breakfast there, upon reflection the latter was better than the former, although both were adequate/sufficient. Meals and drinks are available from the Comet Bar & Brasserie. Room service is available also. There are meeting/conference services available with a function room that holds 140(or a gypsy wedding!). The staff here are very friendly, helpful & polite. The service is on the whole very good. As a final foot note, the hotel comes under the Wyndham loyalty points scheme. I mention this as I stayed at a sister hotel in Liverpool recently(Days Inn). So you can claim points for your stay subject to proof of booking etc. A decent enough hotel and I had a reasonable night stay there, may not be to everyone’s taste or standards though.

I stayed here for work, as it’s near the office, and I have to say it is in desperate need of an upgrade. The room was tiny, bed was very high but comfortable. There were nearly no amenities, only a hairdryer and coffee/team maker. The bathroom was tiny, with very high counters and I felt like a bathroom was built inside a closet. it felt more like motel then a hotel. I hope my next trip across the pond finds the hotel has had some improvements.
