What can you say about probably the most perfect beach site in the UK. Soft sands, rock pools, caves and an emerald sea. It’s a bit of a climb down to the beach but it’s absolutely gorgeous. There is a café there too serving great ice creams. I actually had a school of dogfish swimming around me as I was in the sea.

Kynance Cove, and Cornwall in general, were such a marvelous surprise for us. I had always assumed the English coast looked just like the coast of my homeland, The Netherlands: flat, polluted and depressing. Turns out the Cornish Coast is absolute magnificent! Rocks dramatically rising out of the sea, a perfect sheltered beach, a cute little café with delicious food. If you just saw the picture, you’d think this was a Caribbean cove. Paradise! Well, except for the wind and 10 degree temp, because, well, this is still England: P

Last year we just dropped by on the coastal walk but this year spent the day on the beach and here’s what we thought! Firstly there is a car park on top of the cliff that is NT& costs £4.50 if you are not a member. It’s a short but steep walk down to the cove, an alternative is available which is longer & is the service track to the café. Once down to the beach there is a boulder field to negotiate before you reach the sand which can be absent when the tide is in so the cove is very tide dependant. However when it’s out it’s a fab place to spend the day, 2 small bays separated by a sand ridge punctuated by large rocks. There are a couple of sea caves to explore. Very popular so get there early to bag your spot when the tide goes out. worth a visit if on the lizard & tides are on your side.
