Recently changed ownership. Tried for lunch on Friday. Menu simple but well thought out, stating everything freshly prepared on location. Food quality was reasonable for the area. Considering they have to compete with the Frog at Skirmett & the Bull & Butcher at Turville this is a compliment and an improvement on the previous landlord. Staff couldn’t do enough for us(we went in with a 10 month old baby) however the bar was very quiet. The barman mentioned there are plans to ‘do up’ the garden before the summer. Hopefully they will not do too much as the garden is fabulous as it is for lazy sunny afternoons. Would be better off working a bit more on the coherence of the interior in my opinion. At the moment unless you are in the main bar area(which is small) there is literally no atmosphere.

A small pub in a tiny village but well worth driving through Skirmett and past Turville for. The place has had a restaurant extension added to the back and has a sizeable beer garden out back. The beer is always well kept and the friendly staff serve good quality and reasonably priced traditional pub grub. They tend to expect the place to be half empty so, if there’s a group of you turning up phone ahead — otherwise you may well find that they’ve run out of food. The setting is tranquil and relaxed and you can easily find minutes turning into hours as you chill out in the garden. Well worth a visit. Why not walk there from Henley, then plod down to Mill end and get the bus back.
