I had my first Sunday roast last year when I was visiting my husband’s family. I was hooked! It’s not a tradition we regularly partake in, but every once in awhile we go out in search of a good roast. My husband is a big fan of Wetherspoons pubs, so we tried out the Six Templars this afternoon. Their Sunday roast was pretty reasonably priced at £6.99. It was set up carvery-style with a buffet of sorts where you can select exactly what you want. We got the veggie roast, which was a chunk of beans, various veggies and seeds that might have been pretty good if they hadn’t burned the edges to a crisp. We had to cut away nearly half of it to get rid of the burnt bit. The veggies on the bar included roast potatoes, new potatoes, parsnips, broccoli, cheesy cauliflower, cabbage, collard greens and most importantly, a huge vat of gravy. I had a bit of an issue with the service – at one point a server came to our table and said that if we wanted dessert, just let her know and she’d get it so that we didn’t have to go up to the bar. I said I wasn’t in the mood for dessert, but could she get me another Diet Coke? She balked for a second and then said no, I’d have to go to the bar for that. So… they’re willing to bring you a slice of cheesecake, but not a Coke? Lame. Aside from that, the Six Templars is pretty cool. We’ll be back!
