On the food outskirts of Heswall on the Wirral, Ego’s looks good from the outside and has a reputation for good Mediterranean food! We visited on this occasion for a light lunch and the place was still deserted at 1pm — disappointing considering the location. I’ve been here in the evenings too and its busier but I think a decision needs to be made in terms of afternoon marketing! We weren’t disappointed by the service or the food though — as always local staff willing to smile and chat, My only disillusionment came as I realized that as it wasn’t busy the staff were all just sat in the restaurant chatting, doesn’t make me feel comfortable (but it’s because it was quiet…)! Nice to sit on the balcony and food was great! As with many UK restaurants they need to provide free wi-​fi though… I still like though, and will go again. Just not in the day time…

Still as busy and successful as it has been since it first opened, the Heswall Ego is a bustling Mediterranean restaurant with a great atmosphere set inside a warm décor!
They serve a wide range of Mediterranean dishes, from fish dishes to steaks and salads, chicken dishes, Italian dishes etc.
They do a great lunchtime deal whereby any customers can come in and eat two lunch courses of their choice for just £9.95, or be greedier and have three courses each for just £11.95. The portions are very generous, I’m sure one of these lunchtime inclusive would set me up for the night as well.
They have a large seating area inside the restaurant, a bar area, and a balcony area that has outdoor seating above their ground floor seating. The staff have always been pleasant and professional whenever I’ve eaten here and I would fully recommend this place to anyone eating in Heswall!

In a nutshell: like their style, like their food, like their offers. Don’t like the clattery noisy atmosphere; didn’t like being told as a party of 14 mums out for a meal, (having spent a fair amount of money) being told we couldn’t have another coffee at the end of the evening because the coffee machine had already been cleaned for the night. This happened quite a while ago, but businesses should be well-​aware how a small incident can alienate a customer for a long time.

Nice food but usually need to book in advance for saturday and sundays. I love mediterranean food, so I really like it here, but there isn’t a great choice, and it tends to be a little pricey. Not as friendly as some restaurants I have been to, but I would go again

Food and decoration of the restaurant are average, not somewhere I would choose to go to as there are so many amazing restaurants close by this one is overpriced for what it is in comparison to all the others within a 5 minute walk.
The staff are also average as if it’s a bit of an effort. I would go back if everywhere else was too busy that I couldn’t be bothered waiting for a table. As the name suggest the food is mediterranean put tastes more pub like than the bistro they are obviously aiming to be.
