Great food and outstanding service. Visited recently for lunch, very fast and very delicious. Had such a lovely time we went for anniversary dinner a few nights later. The staff was very kind and ensured we had a lovely, quiet, special dinner. Steak frites will knock your socks off. I appreciated they removed an unsatisfactory tapenade from our charcuterie platter before serving. They replaced with a lovely red onion Chutney that matched goat cheese and beautifully cooked bread to perfection. Hubby loved the Pâté and we both enjoyed the prosciutto and salami. All in all, an outstanding meal. My only issue was desert arrived with a burnt bottom crust on two of three items in sampler. We will definitely go back for the service alone.

Cheap food sold on expensive plates. Not bad in the summer when you can sit outside and just have a coffee, otherwise you are better off rustling up something at home.

Food is OK, but very pricey for what you get. If you are out for a snack maybe this is the place, but you will not get much for a £10 note.

Slap bang in Hitchin high street and seconds from the main market square this very nice outlet of the Café Rouge chain is a very handy place to stop and refuel while out shopping in Hitchin town centre. There are tables outside for when the weather is nice but, if not, the interior is lovely too — nicely decorated and not too crowded. The menu is a delight and the food very good — it can be a little pricey and the bar drinks are expensive but as long as you’re careful it needn’t cost a bomb. It’s also one of the most child-friendly places in Hitchin, they’ll warm up bottles and baby food for you, breastfeeding is never a problem and they actively welcome small children –a parent’s delight.

They serve good food, which is reasonably priced. There is a good atmosphere, and the service is quite efficient if there is not too many people there. It is also a very family friendly café/restaurant.

The food in café rouge is of a pretty high standard and it tends to be quite a nice place to eat. However, I find the service VERY slow. The waitor/waitresses are friendly enough, but I am normally left waiting for ages before they take my order. Generally I think it’s because they are understaffed but it does get annoying.

excellent service, great quality whether just stopping for a coffee, a quick snack, or a full meal — café rouge hitchin is possibly the best place to take in the world going by & relax

I visited this place with a friend for lunch about a month ago. This is a chain of restaurants, which as the name suggests are modelled on a traditional French Café. There is outside seating, which is nice in the warm weather. We sat inside, the seating was comfortable although the table did seem a bit close together. As I wasn’t that hungry I opted for the smallest thing on the menu, which was a plate of dips served with bread. This cost around five pounds. To say that the portions are generous is an understatement. I couldn’t finish what I had ordered. My friend had a salad, which looked very fresh and appetising. We both had coffees, which were good quality. I shall definitely be visiting here again, especially as I can use my Tescos Clubcard vouchers here.
