Thank god for Boots at LHR Terminal 5. They definitely were a god send for me during my recent trip to Europe. I was flying from HKG to LHR, en route to ARN and noticed on my HKG-LHR flight I had copious, purulent goop coming from my eye. I knew I had some sort of pink eye and needed to get some sort of anti-infective cream or drops. Fortunately for me, I laid over in Terminal 5 and was able to come to Boots and get some anti infective eye ointment. In the UK, chloramphenicol 1% is available as an over the counter(OTC) medication, but this particular location at LHR only offers the ointment formulation since it doesn’t require refrigeration. I was able to buy a tube and get a consultation from a very knowledgable and friendly male pharmacist. He asked me if I had any eye pain or changes in vision, which I didn’t– he then instructed me how to use the ointment, duration, and what to do if things don’t improve. What great pharmacy counseling skills! Haven’t had such a great pharmacy consultation in a long while. Definitely was a refreshing experience to get such good service despite how miserable I felt(or I should say, how my eyes felt).
