We found this place by accident while killing time before our flight. Several dishes looked interesting so we decided to try it out. The food did not disappoint. I had the butternut orecchiette with sage butter and a tempranillo. The butter sage sauce was thick and creamy(more than just melted butter) and it was amazing. I found myself scraping the last bits off the plate. My husband had the chicken udon and a Côtes du Rhôné. The chicken was moist inside with a crispy skin on top. And the broth was unlike any broth I ever tasted. It was layered; first I tasted fish sauce then fresh veggies followed by salty chicken broth. Most broths just meld together but this one was truly unique. The wines were also very good: smooth, inky for the tempranillo and rich berry with mild tanins on the back for the Côtes du Rhôné. I couldn’t resist the dessert menu and ordered a blackberry apply crumble. The fruit was cooked just enough to be warm and soft(not mushy as is often the case with fruit desserts) and the crumble was extra crunchy. It was topped with the perfect amount of vanilla ice cream. Service was unobtrusive and food was delivered at appropriate intervals. I never felt like I was waiting too long. And I didn’t feel like staff were hovering either. We were in and out in an hour. The décor was neutral and faded into the background letting the food be the star. I would definitely come back here. Next time I have a long flight from Heathrow, I want to try one of their picnics.

My friends and I came here in between flying between London and Los Angeles… We’ve always heard wonderful things about Mr. Ramsey’s restaurant and decided to utilize our layover to experience it. The food was good… But the service was awful. We waited quite some time for water, the food took quite some time… About 25 minutes. Once the meal was complete it literally took 45 minutes for our check! The level of service was quite disappointing. I expected better.

I visited Plane Food to pick up one of their In Flight Picnics for my long haul flight. I’d definitely recommend it! You can order in advance and set a pick up time but I just waited til I got there and it was ready in 10 – 15 mins. You choose from a selection of three items each for starter, main and dessert. I went for a charcuterie started with cured ham and salami, mozzarella, olives and peppers. My main was a roast beef salad with rocket and green beans. For both courses the meat portion was generous and it was good quality meat, far exceeded expectations. My dessert was a mixed berry tart with coulis and it was lovely. The picnic is nicely presented in a branded cool bag which you keep. Easy to transport and store in the plane, but perhaps not the most effective as a cool bag. At £12.95 for three courses and a bag I thought it was great value for money and will definitely pick one up again next time I’m at that terminal!

I’ve been going to Plane Food pretty much since it opened, now visiting around twice a year. I’ll join the chorus saying this is probably one of the best airport restaurants in the world. Yes, it might not stack up against landside options, certainly not Central London, but airside? The other thing is that it’s damn cheap for what you get. It’s on par with the other food options in the terminal(Wagamama, Giraffe) in terms of prices, and even has a ridiculously cheap breakfast of toast with jam, marmalade and honey for GBP2.50, which might be more than kaya toast costs at Changi, but is pretty good value when sitting in a comfortable white leather chair and waiting for your flight. They’ve always been happy to provide tap water with frequent refills. I’ve been pretty much every T5 visit, except once when both my arrival and transit gates were C gates. Going through A gates security does eat up a lot of time. I can also confirm it’s open early. I think the service is pretty good for London, but maybe I got lucky many times in a row. For example, on my first visit(which I still remember), the bartender did not know how to make an old fashioned, so he phoned the RHR restaurant(with its 3 Michelin stars!) and got the recipe from the bartender there.

1st class airport restaurant. My fav airport restaurant. Yes some service could be a bit more friendly or genuine, but on the whole this place is stunning. Once I’ve been a bit disappointed with the food, but mostly it is excellent to amazing. Just had the baked cod with mash and parsley sauce, mesmerizingly tasteful, was stunned cod could taste this good. Good wines and champagnes by the glass, friendly and helpful staff, enjoyable ambience(don’t forget you have a flight to catch one almost can here). A range of prices. Does take away picnics to take on your flight. Can you have a delightful and memorable dining experience at an airport? Ramsay has Gordon done it.

We did the takeaway, and it was ok. Pricey, but it’s Gordon Ramsay so to be expected. Very tasty, and the bags are really cool, we gave them to our kids. The bags you take the food away with. Anyways I really wish I had time to sit and eat in there but we were late arriving so we had to connect to BA too quickly, so no time to stay but beautiful.

Happy to report I had the opportunity to dine at one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants, sad to say I was limited to their breakfast menu. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against breakfast, I just would have preferred to have lunch or dinner. Breakfast is usually pretty easy and lacking in some of the finer elements of cooking but what the heck we decided to give it a try since it belonged to Chef Ramsay. Once we decided to stay and give their breakfast a try it became clear that our server was trying hard to run up our bill. While other servers offered their guest glasses of waters, we were only offered bottled water we had to pay for. We were asked if we wanted toast with our breakfast, we said yes, it was brought out well in advance of our meal. We had two options eat the toast or let it get cold. The meal took so long to get to our table we almost walked out of the place. When our meals showed up we were so hungry we ate and nearly ran for the door. The worst feeling in the world is to feel overcharged for mediocre food and poor service. We were charged 50+ dollars for a breakfast that consisted of 2 fried eggs, 2 grilled tomato slices, 1 mushroom and some breakfast meat on the side, an order of toast and a bottle of water for two. The only reason I am giving them 3 stars is that I saw how the other servers treated their customers and I believe that had we had a different server we may have had a better experience. For an international airport we expected a better selection of food and better staff. Unless you are craving mediocrity and swarmy service you may want to avoid this place.

I’d been here once before and had been thoroughly impressed, so I thought it was worth another shot, even though I only had 40mins before boarding. I was really excited to see the options of an on-plane picnic for a reasonable price of £14(3 courses). If I was a fan of cold food I might well have gone for it, but I’m not, and so I sat at a table like a civilised person and had a lovely lunch. The area is decorated well and a little separate from the rest of the terminal, which helps you forget that you’re basically in a giant tin-can of people that can’t wait to escape the UK! Re the food, the bread was perfect, and helped fill me up — it was served with a strong, earthy tapenade, that was a touch too salty. I also ordered some sides of creamy mash and well-seasoned broccoli which hit the spot well. I’d return for sure — 2 small bugbears though: the loos weren’t clean enough for this kind of place, and the cover charge seemed a little unnecessary. Still, an oasis at Heathrow…

I flew into London for a transfer flight and was curious to see if airport food could be as good as the name Gordon Ramsay. I knew I’d be entering into somewhere chic and modern but was pleasantly surprised. We were greeted promptly and aoon seated quickly. The server was somewhat attentive although it did take him aoon seated while to give us our bill. But if I were purely rating this on the food it would be 4.5. The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with a selection of miniature baguettes made the meal delightful. The shrimp cocktail was very good and was savory and tangy without the two overwhelming each other. What would have made this a five star was if the mac and cheese was any good. It lacked in flavor and tasted like a baked mac and white sauce. It lacked and by cheese flavor or seasoning which was disappointing. Another time London.

Came across this place after going through security. We were somewhat short on time and saw the Gordon Ramsey name, so we said, «why not?» After meeting the hostess, we were asked to move to a nearby waiting area. A short five minute wait, and we were directed to our table. This place truly deserves 3.5 stars, and I was torn selecting between 3 and 4. On the one hand, the food was above average for what I would have expected in an airport. We had a pulled pork burger and short rib burger along with fries and macaroni and cheese, all easily 4⁄5 stars. What really forced my hand to select 3 stars was the service: absolutely terrible. From the minute we were seated, we saw all around us couples and singles tapping on the table waiting for something. Our waitress was visibly upset, and at one point I’m pretty sure I heard her tell the manager and/or hostess that she was overwhelmed, and after being told it was busy(which it really wasn’t), she replied, «I don’t give a $&@#!» Pricepoint was slightly above what I would have expected to pay for two burgers/sides(including a cover charge and 12.5% gratuity). In short: if you have time before your flight and some extra cash, definitely check this place out; otherwise, I recommend avoiding it.

I was intrigued to be trying a Gordon Ramsay restaurant for the first time. Plane food has been a place I have had my eye on for a long time as I journey through Heathrow on reasonably regular occasions. Upfront I’m gonna say I was not blown away. Service was at best standoffish, but really in general if you want my honest view it seemed very unfriendly. The pricing was exceptionally expensive for what you actually got and then they stick a cover charge AND a service charge on your bill on top of the over priced food. The food itself was ok. In fact the Mac and cheese side was really nice at 3.50, but the burger at 12 quid was exceptionally plain.(Maybe it’s meant to be plain food and not plane food???) Part of the reason is probably that I live in the best burger city in the UK… Yes Glasgow does better, juicier, messier, durtier burgers than anywhere else. Ask any Glaswegian they will tell you it’s true. That being the case this burger fell well short of the mark of what I consider a good burger. Back to the restaurant in hand. I think basically it was all ok, but nothing amazing. The thing is when GR puts his name to it you expect amazing! I will go back, but I won’t hurry and I would still not be happy about the sneaky charges and the overpriced food.

As far as airport food goes, you can’t really have super-high expectations. Gordon Ramsay tries hard to bring the Chelsea experience to Heathrow’s T5, and makes a valiant if not totally successful effort at it. T5 is a bit constrained in the sense that it’s a BA-only terminal — so your choices for food are pretty much restricted to a couple of pubs /typical airport food, a rather posh champagne and oysters bar(way too expensive for the value you get), some fast casual places and Gordon Ramsay. I’ve been itching to try this place out so I spent a bit of time here during my layover between CPT and SFO, especially since Cathay doesn’t grant me lounge privileges at LHR(only in HKG). I started with a mimosa and some eggs norweigen(basically eggs benedict with smoked salmon). I’d say both were quite good, but the mimosa felt like it had a lot less champagne and too much orange juice than most others I’ve had while the eggs norweigien didn’t have as «rich» of a flavour(perhaps too much egg white and not enough smoked salmon?). Either way, I do look on the place favourably as trying to improve the airport experience, however two points prevent me from giving it an above-average rating: 1. You’d expect that such a prestigious institution would have great views of the terminal or the airplanes parked outside. Nope. 2. The value proposition here is hard to justify, I paid a little over 30 quid for my two mimosas and eggs norweigen. This is nearly 300RMB or US$ 50 so it does run on the expensive side. Also no free wifi or charging ports for your computer — I guess they don’t want you to stick around a hog a table up, but I would’ve been open to ordering more high-margin alcoholic drinks if they did. One big redeeming factor is how quiet the whole place seemed, it was a nice pocket of calm in an airport full of chaos. If you’re a BA elite I’d head straight to the lounge though. TLDR; head over to Wagamama’s for a cheaper and equally delicious experience if you don’t mind some extra noise.

I re-visited my new T5 favourite for my 5 hour stop over at Heathrow on my way back from SF. I had barely slept on the flight so I was starving, thirsty and my phone needed charging. I’d booked a table in advance and they seated me towards the back-left side which is even more of an oasis of calm than the rest of the place. The waiter took my phone and plugged it into their charing station for me, and I proceeded to order all the things on the menu. Chicken wings with tamari sauce as a starter, followed by ricotta and spinach pancakes with mushroom and egg, and side of chips. The wings were excellent and really good value seeing as it was about £7 and I got 6 of them(I only really expected three). The main however was one of the most WTF dishes I’ve had in a long time. It actually doesn’t even sound like a good combination but seeing as I really like all the ingredients, I thought I’d try it out. Nope, it doesn’t work at all and the mushrooms overpowered everything on the dish. Chips are decent and nicely chunky. I also got a carafe of wine which was about £15 which helped pass the time. Service was ok — I found it hard to catch someone’s eye to get the bill when I was leaving but I think it’s because I’d been seated in a weird area. Plane Food is still my choice of places to go but I’ll order something less ridiculous next time.

This is one place I’ve been waiting to try for a while now, unfortunately I’ve most often been short of time hence did not have time. Starting with first impressions, the restaurant looks really nice & smart with good seating all around & very spacious, the time I went there were not too many people & that added to a pleasant experience in terms of look & feel. I order a smoothie which did arrive quite promptly giving me a nice feeling for the service, I ordered butter chicken as my main course which is supposed to be a full meal with rice, but to my disappointment the portion was really small for the rice at least. Now for the taste, the curry had really good flavor & it felt like authentic Indian, but the chicken was not cooked well & I was disappointed. For Gordon Ramsay who keeps swearing at people for undercooked meat it was really bad. Overall a decent experience, I wld prefer another restaurant for my next time.

So, I came here for tea and gluten free toast which probably gave me a bill of around £5−6. Maybe steep for what it is? Possibly, but when you are coeliac then having a simple breakfast option when travelling is great and very limited usually. To be honest, I didn’t look at the menu. I wanted the gf toast and once staff confirmed this was possible, I ordered. Staff look as if they could be in a fancy restaurant so this is a bit more upmarket than your average airport eatery. Service was good though I had to request a knife for my butter and was missing a teaspoon. If I’m in T5, I’d be back in a shot for tea and gf toast. Simples. :-)

I has assumed this place was, well«fancy» being owned by the sweary one. Actually it isn’t at all and no sneering looks were on offer when I turfed up. It was 8.50 in the morning and not fancying either option of tucking into a yaki soba at Waga or several pints of Stella and peanuts in the pub, I opted for this. What it is actually is a very pleasant mid priced restaurant that does very reasonable breakfasts. The space is open and airy with a great view of the ramp activity. Onto the food. OJ clearly fresh squeezed with nice«bits» Classic breakfast — good quality bacon and sausage spoiled slightly by the absurd knife I was given that was like a butter knife and cut nothing. Service friendly and efficient and despite it being busy there was no wait for food. I normally take a perverted pleasure when a Gordon Ramsay restaurant folds but I hope this one sticks around as I’ll be back.

I was traveling with some co-workers and we were hungry, so we decided to go to Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant in Terminal 5. I wasn’t expecting that much to be honest, but I was really impressed with the food. I got the butter chicken with saffron rice. The butter chicken was cooked perfectly. The sauce was great. It was everything that I wanted from butter chicken! There was also a dollop of cream that made the dish even better. I would have eaten the entire dish if I had more time. I would definitely get this dish again. The service itself was not so great, but I think that’s just a symptom of most European restaurants.

Gordon Ramsay needs no introduction probably for most Unilocal readers. His high standards and foul mouth are well known from the numerous TV shows. I wish he could carry the same high standards to his restaurant at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5. Airport resaturants not known to be good in general, but I have certain expectation given the name of Gordon Ramsay. It doesn’t matter if it is the flagship restaurant or the opposite. They all need to put out quality food within price point. We ordered the burger and pork belly. The burger was decent, but nothing special. The patty was juicy, but it lacked flavor. Pork belly was the real problem. It was tough like leather. Not to mention the tiny knife given the cut the brick. I was lucky enough to try out several restaurants under celebrity chefs, and they were all pretty good for the most part. On the other hand, this is a good example of bad restaurant under famous chef.

I had a ton of time to kill and hadn’t really had a chance to have British food, so I decided to pop in here. I had the Spinach & ricotta pancake, mushroom sauce and a Burford brown egg. It was pretty good and reasonably priced. The restaurant was large and light and pleasant for an airport, and service was fine. They also offer an express menu and some picnic boxes for the plane which sounded good; I might try one of those if I am at Heathrow again.

Located upstairs in Terminal 5 next to Harrod’s. It’s easy to miss if you don’t know what to look for. Now ya do. I love Gordon. My fave restaurant is BurGR in Vegas — I eat their regularly. I’ve not been to Steak or the Pub bc BurGR suits me fine. When I decided to come to England for Xmas I was excited to try Plane Food. I made Open Table reservations weeks ago; sadly, bc of my flight I wasn’t able to sit & enjoy the burger I’ve been eyeballing. BUT… I was able to get takeaway: Plane Food To Go. I chose the Caesar salad w/soft boiled egg; parma ham, arugula & Roma; pecan brownie.(The brownie crème served on the side.) Sadly, my meal did not look amazing. The soft boiled egg had an orange coloured yolk. There are anchovies & bacon strips served on the Caesar(not mentioned on menu); Parma ham was fab but the Roma looked awful. Brownie was yum-o! From my emails with a Manager leading up to today, I can get Plane Food To Go but I can’t order a burger to go or take leftovers? They aren’t setup for that. The hostess, while nice, couldn’t tell me what fizzy drinks I could choose from NOR could I get water in a cup to go. From the time I got my food until I was able to sit & eat was a good 4 plus hours later. It tasted GREAT! For just under $ 20US I expected it to be more appealing visually though. Gordon should take his own advice & get a new head chef. Food is a direct reflection on him & he isn’t even cooking it.

Alles in allem, einfach klasse. Wenn es nur nicht so teuer wäre.
