The Wine Barrel on Western Road has an extensive range of wines but doesn’t provide the quality that such a range would suggest. That said it’s one of the better places in the vicinity to find bargains as there’s always a few promotional deals on at any time. From Sussex best to Black sheep there’s also a fairly well-stocked range of ales as well as lagers and ciders. If you’re in need of a good deal and don’t want to shop at Tescos this is the place for you.

Like Sarah says, this place might have a wide range of wines but that range doesn’t extend to the palatable end of the market. Despite this, Wine Barrel is great for finding mega deals on beers and ale. It serves all the usual stuff along with some local products and a few less-common brands. Basically, if you’re looking for bargains this is for you but if you want premium quality look elsewhere.

I know it’s called Wine Barrel but forget the wine at this local off license. All the bottles I’ve tried have been dire and when you ask the staff for a recommendation they look at you blankly. The real reason to pop in is for their excellent range of beer and liquor. They sell single bottles and six packs of everything from Sol and Corona to fruit flavoured beers, ciders and ale. They also sell about a dozen different varieties of vodka from Absolut and Stolichnaya to Grey Goose. The reason I go however, is they’re one of the few shops that sell my favourite tipple — seven year old, Havana club rum. The only question is, cuba libre or mojito?

Unsurprisingly this store stocks a large number, and a fairly good range of wines of a reasonable quality, and at a moderate price. Besides this, you’ll also find numerous cans of red bull, bottles of water, many soft drinks, fruit juices, and snack items, particularly crisps and dips.
