I have been going to this place since it opened. The atmosphere is fantastic and the food is always good. It serves simple fresh Mexian food with good early bird offers. The drinks are good and reasonable pricing. You can ask for variations from the dishes on offers and the chef will accommodate you and make you a special dish. It’s a casual place with a mixed crowd.

Gringo’s is easy to find, close to Huddersfield Train Station and across the road from Tesco. I’ve been there on two office christmas dos and a leaving do so far and have come out ‘happy tummy’. The place is quite small and so it gets cramped during peak hours. As a result it feels quite warm even during peak winter. The staff however are very friendly and polite and offer suggestions and recommendations if you ask. They have the standard«latin american» beers on bottle along with the usual suspects, wines and spirits. The food itself is brilliant. The portion sizes are big, the food is flavoursome and the texture is great. It’s also appealing to the eye and most imporantly tastes great. I would go there again and recommend this place. Tip: Try the chimichanga.

I thought this place would be over hyped, but it was not. The food was really good and very, very filling. I’m glad I didn’t get a starter for myself. I thought how cute is was when they give you gummy bears once you have paid, I’m not quite sure if it was a one time thing or if they normally do that. Oh! The jalapeños were crunchy, none of that soft mushy stuff Atmosphere was good and the music wasn’t too loud. Just a very minor thing I felt odd was that the chairs were a bit too high, so the distance from the food to my mouth was quite far.

Food was okay as it was my first time there but the restaurant itself could be a bit bigger as it was very cramped.

The food was typical for what you would expect to find in most English versions of Mexican food restaurants, fajita’s, burrito’s, refried beans etc, there is a Tex-Mex grill and aslo specials offering non Mexican type food. We ordered from the 241 menu(party of 5) and we all tried different things, enchilada, chimichanga, burrito, fajita, plus from the childrens menu for a 7 year old, when it arrived we were surprised at the size of the portions they were huge! the flavours were really good, spicy and very tasty, you can ask for different heat strengths if you prefer it hotter though, the guacamole and refried beans tasted home-made. Although I’m happy we had starters(also 241), if you go there expecting to finish your meal I wouldn’t bother unless you starve the whole day or have a very healthy appetite. Very reasonably priced £55 for 5 of us which included starters, mains, bottle of wine and soft drinks Will go again and try from the other menu/board.

Two words; Mexican Heaven. Ok now for the rest of the words. Gringos restaurant, Huddersfield is one of those places that are a hidden nugget of a town, that soon becomes a little bit of a local legend. You walk in and you’re greeted almost instantly by a member of staff, before you get to know your bearings, you see a brightly decorated restaurant floor. Purple and red are the colours of choice. The tables are grand wood things with matching grand wooden chairs. You’re seated, and menus are delivered and drink orders taken. Scanning over the menu, there’s something for everyone who’s willing to try something different to pizza, pasta and curry. Don’t worry if you don’t know the difference between a chimichanga and an enchilada, it’s all there for explanation. Personally, I decided to try the chimichanga. I was not disappointed. First I was in awe at the size of the plate. Portion size, HUGE. The gargantuan chimichanga was full of the spicy lamb filling I ordered, and there was a nice portion of refried beans and potato wedges, all tex-mexed out, naturally. I’m glad I didn’t go for the starter, by the time I’d finished my absolutely tasty meal, I was packed out to the limits, as was the rest of the overstuffed and replete members of my party. There were eight of us in total, and as we had pre-booked the table, sat down, and ordered all before 7pm, and the bill was brought to us before the hour of 8, all of our mains were 241, or bogof depending on how you look at it. In my opinion it was a royal bargain. Call it £1.50 for a small coke, and the total bill price for each person was £6.50. The only down side of our eating experience was that we were so full with our yumtastic and sizeable meals that we were all unable to roll our bellies forward to fill them with deserts, which were not two for one, but were very tasty in their appeal. So pleased we were with our meal, we re-booked for a second sitting a few weeks later, this time with 12 in our party and at a later sitting time of 8pm. Again the staff were very hospitable, and the place was packed, all good testament to how good the food is. As it wasn’t two for one, various bods were willing to try the steaks and specials available, again all with accompanying noises of approval. And as it was after work hours, there were indulgences into the cocktail pitchers available, and also the shooters for the more daring. The alcohol is a bit steep in price at £15.95 a pitcher, but apparently the taste warranted it. Gringos has a great atmosphere, one of those places where you feel you could spend all night and have fun in a casual environment. Beware of elbow room, so popular is the place that there isn’t a lot of room for manoeuvring oneself. I say get booked and eaten for 8pm and enjoy a full belly at a great price.

Good mexican food & they often do special deals if you get there before 7. It’s good for groups & they do a great group menu which is quite a bargain. On the down side, tables are a bit crowded together, so not somewhere for a quiet night for 2! Also every time I go there my hair & clothes end up smelling of mexican food, which while it is nice to eat is less nice to smell once you’ve left the building!
