Train stations don’t get much simpler than Huddersfield, easy to navigate, always clean, helpful staff and a kitty… Yes you heard me, kitty.

Huddersfield is a better station than a few I’ve been to. It looks really nice from the outside, but it honestly is your bog standard train station from the inside. The station is run by Transpennine Express, and you can tell by all the damn annoying barriers, overpriced tickets and inconveniences(you used to be able to go go straight from the pub and out for your train). Huddersfield though has two great pubs. It has the Kings Head(the image of Hendrix too is win win) and Head of Steam, which is a good ol Real Ale pub with lots of railway antiques on show for train nerds. The station has it’s own newspaper shop, but that’s overpriced. Head off to the Station Buffet on platform 8 which do flapjacks, tea, sandwiches and fry ups for a good deal! There’s a station cat in Huddersfield Station too! His name is Felix and he even has his own cat flap where the ticket barriers are! He doesn’t tend to hang around the station in the daytime(what cat would wanna hang around in rush hour?) but you occasionally see him hanging around on the platforms and on the station seats at night. He loves a stroke too :) You wouldn’t get a station cat in Leeds. Poor thing would be frightened to death. It loses out on 1 mark for being annoying to leave since the ticket barriers were put up and miserable station staff. The station would be great without ticket barriers. They’re worse than Leeds!
