went here for a quick snack in the restaurant and was very impressed the food was nice, the service was very good and welcoming and the food was good value for money. for a fish and chip shop you couldn’t do better

There are two part to Bob Carver’s, the take away downstairs and the restaurant upstairs.
The chips from the take away are always hot, and delicious.
The restaurant upstairs looks like it hasn’t been decorated in about 40 years, but it’s fairly cheap, and kids love sitting at a proper table and eating fish and chips.

So wrong yet right. Carvers have a tendancy to refry chips from yesterday (or so it seems) but you know what? They are proper chippy chips better than those anemic chunks you get nowadays from just about every chip shop. Go for the traditional: «Pattie, Chips and Peas please». Cant go wrong.

Bob Carver’s is one of Hull’s gems, fish and chips at it’s basics, where it all comes from originally.
Sometimes the chips are okay, or spot on, which makes this place worth taking a chance. Never had a bad chip from Bob.
Whenever I’m back in Hull I always get a bag of chips from Bob’s.
Not many people know that fish and chips were invented in hull so at least we’re true to the roots.

There is something distinctly ‘Hullian’ about standing at this Bob Carver’s counter asking for a portion of chips and mushy peas while the pigeons congregate around your feet cocking their cute little heads begging for morsels before your food arrived!
Something slightly unhygenic but quaint at the same time!

Unlike many others here, I rather like Bob Carver’s. It is old fashioned, hardcore fish and chips. I can’t tell what kind of fat they cook with but high in polyunsaturates it aint!
Lardy, hot and ideal for lining the stomach before a few drinks, or after a few drinks for that matter.

This place is great. Not for the food or quality of service, but because it is so bad. The seating area is cold, because the entrance covers almost the whole front wall, so it is quite exposed. The food is greasy but cheap. It does taste nice though, they’re really nice chips. Though its best to not think about the food, like Miss J, I doubt the place has been properly cleaned.
