To a city boy like me, Huntingdon is already well off the beaten path, but at least it has a high street with some shops and pubs. If you need to get even further from the beaten path, you can venture down a windy lane off the main road, past the caravan park and the boat mooring, and just when you think you’re about to drive into a field or an axe murderer’s backyard, you pop out at a charming brick structure with a running watermill and a nice-looking patio. Turns out you’ve stumbled upon a nice little restaurant and bar for a perfectly lovely evening. The bar downstairs has low ceilings and a cosy atmosphere, with a few armchairs and small tables, but you can order from the full menu. The chicken liver parfait was as good as any I’ve had in my big city, and the pie was rich and hearty even if the mash was a little gluey. They only have a few cask ales but enough to get you by for a night. This would be the perfect spot for a quiet date night(judging from the number of couples I saw at other tables) or a special occasion, a real hidden gem in the area.

Excellent food and service with an extensive drink menu. The staff is very friendly and I’ve had a great time here whenever I visit.

Cannot fault my first visit to the Brampton Mill over the weekend. As my parents were visiting, I was looking for somewhere nice but relaxed to take them and a couple of people recommended this place to me. As soon as I saw the photo gallery and menu online i knew it would be worth a visit and I wasn’t wrong. Set in beautiful surroundings on the river it definitely has the rural country pub feel. The original water turbine is still turning as you approach the main doors which is a lovely feature too. I visited on a night time so would love to return in the day to appreciate this all the more. On entering you have the cosy bar to the right with armchair seating and low ceilings with original beams. To the left there is the restaurant where we had our meal. The service I have to admit was a little patchy in that the first waitress never once smiled and it seemed an effort to place our orders but the second girl who took over was fabulous! As for the important bit… the food! Excellent quality British pub food with a great selection on the menu even for vegetarians like my sister. It does come at a price but it is so worth it! I ordered the duck and the meat was cooked perfectly with minimal fat in sight. Others on the table had fish and steak and we were all impressed. Definitely worth a visit for the surroundings and good quality food.

Visited hear on a Sunday night for a quiet drink with a friend. As it was bank holiday Sunday night the pub was busier than usual but we were served quickly and found some nice seats by the window. The décor in the Brampton mill is lovely– very quirky and different. Big old fashioned chairs, animal skin bar stools and a variety of mismatch furnishings. We shared a bottle of house wine and ordered a pint of lemonade which came to 17.50 We then ordered some bar snacks as followed which came to just over £13 Garlic and Parmesan flat bread — very floury and dry — luke warm and lacking any significant flavour Homemade sausage rolls — very very good but only were given 1 mini sausage roll each which we felt was a rip off for a bar snack of around £3! Croquettes selection — ham, cheese and mushroom selection of croquettes. Each filling was a paste which was not overly flavoursome. But there were 3 each which was a better amount! Service was average — the first bar lady was very snappy and rude but others were fine. Overall, lovely atmosphere but really need to improve on bar snacks!

Brilliant. Recommended by family in the area, it was our first night in the UK and exceeded our expectations! Great menu options, food was delicious, inviting ambiance in a quaint setting. Our two kids were able to select pasta and pizza off the kids menu. We thoroughly enjoyed the Mediterranean appetizer to share. The soup of the day was larger than expected — a creative recipe, served in a bowl with good bread and full of unique rich flavor. Desert was small but right-sized as we were full from appetizer and main course. We shared it — just enough to end the palette with something sweet.

Good beer, good wine selection, beautiful location and surroundings. The food was good, very English in style but with some interesting choices. I had the lamb rump which was perfectly cooked. The service was questionable. When I asked our waitress for the difference between two of the beers, I was told they were different brands. If you are in Huntingdon, it is worth the visit but I would not go out of my way to get there.

Superb restaurant. Good service, great food, good selection, excellent bar selection as well. The island on which the restaurant sits creates a charming atmosphere for everything from a nice family dinner to a meal with a large group of friends. Brampton Mill is also good for those with dietary restrictions. My Vegan wife always finds something she likes. A bit pricey, but worth the experience.

Another American posting a review, but I lived here for four years so I frequented this establishment often. The ambiance was upscale casual, as in not too casual, not too upscale. The architecture is beautiful, classic British, and the service professional and prompt. The collection of wines was great, and the eating areas can either be with everyone or tucked away for some privacy. There is an outside eating area, but the British weather usually doesn’t allow for this pleasure. If you’re in the area, take the time to search it out and enjoy yourself. The beer is good and plentiful, just like the food.

Disclaimer: it was a business dinner, and I didn’t pay the bill. So I have no idea if the total bill was in line with the experience. Things looked proper and reasonable on the menu. Without regard to price, however, food was excellent all around. We ordered some apps for the table, some brick oven style flatbread/pizza concoctions, some mushroom thing, some risotto balls — all were excellent. I ordered Haddock — perfectly done and nicely presented on a bed of oven roasted root veggies, topped with a mango chutney of some sort. Others at the table also ordered a dover sole, a split chicken with a spicy pirri sauce, a salmon/crab fishcake, and assorted other dishes. 8 people at the table yielded 8 thumbs up. I’d go back for sure.

The Brampton Mill was our second choice one evening after a disastrous attempt to go somewhere else(see my review of the Hartford Mill for details). What can I say? 1) Staff were friendly and polite from the moment we arrived until the time we left. 2) Surroundings were very nice. 3) Served a decent pint of real ale. 4) The food served was excellent, and for the quality we though good value. Definitely on my list of places to go in future.

Keep in mind that this review is by an American who visited England. The Brampton Mill is definitely a hidden gem. Located alongside a river behind a trailer park full of pikeys(from what I’ve been told), it really stands out, and seems to not fit in with the surrounding area. You’ll first notice a large water wheel in the front of the restaurant. The interior is beautifully-designed. The beer selection is pretty good. Their fish and chips are not too mushy. The service is friendly and quick. The bartenders are nice. My friends who live nearby really love this place, and I loved it too. Note: Thursdays are steak nights, but I haven’t personally tried it.

This is a great place to eat. We often go for Sunday dinner. There is a wide choice of food and something for everyone on the menu. The food is ok priced and always nice. The setting is lovely. It is right beside the river. It is nice to sit outside on a summers evening and eat. The staff are all friendly and helpful and there is always a nice atmosphere inside.

Very nice pub in lovely setting overlooking river. Was an old mill and water mill still visible outside pub. Food very expensive following a revamp at the beginning of the year and quality not always consistant. Recently changed hands again so may change. Expensive but good place for quiet drink if price not important.
