You know you have found a solid fish and chips restaurant when no matter what evening the queues are out the door and the business can afford to close for 3 weeks in the summer for the family to go on holiday. The chips here are some of the best I have ever had. Simply amazing and well worth the wait. I have tried the pies, fish and sausage in batter and all are amazing. The portions are very filling and we end up getting 3 – 4 portions of chips for the 5 of us and sharing.

I am from Texas, and was here for two weeks. The first time there, I ordered the cod special, which is a 3-course meal. Had mine cooked in batter. Fresh, not frozen fish. Fresh cut chips! What’s not to like. The server was a very pleasant young lady. The next time, I want for a starter of white bait, which were very small fish which had been deep fried and served on a bed of lettuce, with a quarter lemon on the side. They were piping hot and delicious. The entrée I selected was haddock. I liked the cod better, but it was still done well. It was also one of the biggest servings I’ve ever had. The same very pleasant young lady waited on us again. My biggest regret is that when I go back to Texas, we have nothing like Hi Tide But we do have great barbecue!

Always good fish and quality chips but can be a bit pricey. Gets fairly busy at certain times and can get the orders wrong when under pressure.

Hi-Tide have the best chips in Barkingside. Fact. Actually, that’s what everyone says and accepts without fail. I worry there’s a big conspiracy — i. e, maybe Hi-Tide put something in their chips to make us say that. But are the chips really better than everywhere else? I have my own theory. My theory is that all chippy chips taste EXACTLYTHESAME. Seriously, if I was to line them up one by one, chip by chip, from chippy to chippy, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Despite this fact; I do like Hi-Tide; I think their chips are as good as anyones and their staff are always friendly and chatty; even though I worry about the spotty, greasy dude who’s sorting my chips out. I apologise for the blandity of my review, I just truly believe that all Fish & Chip shops are exactly the same.

Depending on how choosy you are about your fish and chips, I find Hi Tide’s food to be quite scrumptious and indulgent. I don’t often eat fast food, so when I do I make sure that I pick the best on offer, and for me Hi Tide produces the tastiest fish and chips in the area. The batter on the fish is thick and has a really lovely crispy texture, and the chips are also really delicious, although when you don’t eat them often, I sure most would be acceptable. Though I do accept that Hi Tide probably wouldn’t stand out as offering the best fish and chips if there were endless establishments to choose from, I certainly think that they dominate the market in their immediate locality.
