Cromwells has been around since I was a kid hanging around in Irby village, I’ve known a couple of people that have worked there over the years and they’ve said what a great place it is and what a great place it is to work in, which is not something you often here! I’ve also noticed that they have utilised Twitter into their marketing plan, which is a great thing to see. It’s nice to see little independent restaurants such as this one utilising a tool that you would expect a lot of bigger named places to use! I’m pretty sure they even organise tweet-ups, meeting places for Twitter users from the same geographic area, which is great for networking and generating business! I’ve heard wonderful things about the food and service here although I’ve not yet visited myself. I’m sure I will visit in the near future, but in the mean time why not follow them on Twitter to keep up to date on their latest offers etc.

The first thing you need to know about Cromwell’s is it serves Cheshire Farm ice cream as dessert. Actually, that’s probably the only thing. There you go. Review done! Nah, I’m kidding, it’s a really good restaurant overall. You can slug a pint of nice real ale as a pre-dinner drinky, the steaks here are legendary melt-in-the-mouth types, the sea bass is utterly scrumptious and the accompaniments are crisp, al dente and delicious, particularly the wedges and dips and the crunchy crisp onion rings. All the food is locally sourced and super high quality. And as for the Cheshire Farm ice creams, well, they steal any show. There’s a mass of delicious flavours to choose from, from classics like fruit, chocolate and the like to more unusual options such as Oreo. If you’re not in the mood for something cold you can also get waffles. Waffles! Yay! The staff are really welcoming, very friendly and courteous and create a warm and relaxing ambience. The kitchen is brilliantly lit and visible to all which makes for a reassuring experience and there are lovely little touches, such as fresh crisp towels in the bathrooms. All in all if I could get to Thingwall Road more often(that name never fails to amuse me), I’d be here regularly!

This is a delightful little gem of a restaurant! It is quite small, but cosy(and bigger than it looks from the outside!) and feels like home from home. The décor is classic, not modern but not dated, just really nice. They have all sorts of offers on through the week. We went on a Sunday for Sunday lunch and it got really busy so make sure you book a table! The place seemed to have a lot of regulars, but the staff treated all of us in the same way, very nicely, very efficiently and couldn’t do enough for us. The price of the 3 course Sunday lunch is about £8.95 I think and we did think the portions would be quite small but no, they were a nice size, but not too big either. We went home all feeling full and looking forward to our next visit to this lovely establishment. It is a credit to Irby!
