Neist Point

Yes its LOVELY… BUT!
Here’s some tips:
–Driving out there is on single track road for good amount of time.
–Not much parking
–No toilets
–Its a STEEP hike! Wear sensible shoes.
–The wind is strong enough to keep the midges (mosquitos) away, but I’d wear bug repellent anyway just in case. I hate those little monsters!

Husband and I took a fantastic trip to the Isle of Skye and this was one of our favorite explorations. We had a guide drive us here (glad to have done it because most of the route was bumpy and only 1 dirt road lane). We visited in June so the weather was great, but on this particular day it was a little overcast (Yes, we did have sunny days!)
This is the most westerly point of Skye and the Lighthouse has been here since 1909.
There’s a path leading to the lighthouse and its downhill, but remember, you’ll be going uphill on the way back (its 2.2km).
I loved walking all the down and standing at the edge of the water.
Final note: we had hit a pub prior to heading way out here and as I recall there is no bathroom.

The lighthouse is beautifully set on one of the harsher coasts I have ever seen. The wind whips up and the waves crash violently. That said, it is quite beautiful and induces you to just stare more than you’re used to.
Almost more important than Neist Point itself is the drive you take to get there. Maybe this gringo is just B-​road deprived back home, but I’m pretty sure heaven is the drive from Pitlochry to this place in a small sports car. That is going on the bucket list.

Wenn man denn dann endlich hergefunden hat erwartet einen eine der wohl schönsten Ecken auf der Isle of Skye. Abgesehen davon, dass es hier eine der besten Möglichkeiten zur Walbeobachtung vom Land aus gibt, ist es bei Sonnenuntergang ein wunderschöner Ort, an dem man in aller Ruhe spazieren gehen kann. Der dort zu findende Leuchtturm ist wohl in unzähligen Schottland Kalendern abgedruckt und im schönen Licht immer ein tolles fotomotiv. (Noch) ein Geheimtipp, aufgrund der Abgelegenheit…

Neist Point es el punto más occidental de la isla de Skye, si ya de por si la isla entera es un lugar fabuloso este pequeño rincón es mucho más, algo que no debeis perderos si la visitais.
La llegada es bastante complicada, se va por una carretra que sale desde Dunvegan pero no está muy bien indicada, asique es probable que deis alguna vuelta de más hasta que la encontreis.
La carretera es una de las que ya os parecerán típicas despues de unos días por la zona, muy estrecha y con passing places para cruzarse con otros coches, aunque la verdad que no hay muchos por aquella zona.
Una vez se acaba la carretera nos encontramos con un paisaje espectacular. Unos enormes acantilados dan paso a una preciosa bahia con un peñón en medio en el que está el faro.
Para llegar al faro y a la parte alta del peñón hay que bajar por una cuesta bastante empinada, que luego hay que subir claro, pero merece la pena subir y sentarse en la cima del peñón para disfrutar de un sitio tan tranquilo y perdido del mundo, a pesar de las gaviotas, y de las vistas, ya que se ven algunas de las islas cercanas.
