A rather small but very pleasant little library inside the beautiful Dick Institute with a good range of books for the space allowed and friendly, helpful staff. Everything is neat and tidy and the cases of books have large signs above stating ‘fiction’, ‘non-fiction’ etc. It would be helpful if sub-categories could be added sometime, ie ‘biographies’, ‘local interest’ and so on, as it would save a lot of browsing time for new library members. Adult members can borrow up to 8 books, 4 DVDs, 2 videos, 6 talking books and 4 magazines. The magazines are on a wide range of subjects as well, both current magazines and back issues. Membership is free and it’s very easy to join provided you have some identification with you. There are old library books for sale and there are a few chairs and tables dotted about, plus at least one(free) computer point. Across the hallway there is a very good music library. There are audio books available in tape, CD and MP3 format. A charge is normally made for these but concessions are available. There’s an additional reference library but I haven’t used that myself yet. Easy to walk to from the town centre and will take about 10 minutes via The Burns Mall and past The Palace Theatre.
