Friendly service, good food, tasty beer. This about sums it up. So if you are looking for a place for a chilled out, tasty German meal then this is the place for you. I can’t recommend the place high enough. Although if you want to go at the weekend, you should book in advance. The online booking system only accepts bookings one day in advance.

My first try at authentic German cuisine :) Thos is a great pub for a chillax evening with friends and beer and food. A great way to end the day and relax by the Thames. I would definitely come back. If you just wanted a refresh drink then try their homemade lemonade which I found to be a perfect thirst quencher and complimented my chicken salad very well.

I bloody love this pub and regularly come here with my bf and large groups of friends. Great beer, great atmosphere, great food, great staff(in lederhosen and dirndls no less!). However, I remove one star purely because as a vegetarian there is very little choice besides salads and the cheese noodles on the food menu. I KNOW it’s a Bavarian pub. I know, I know… I lived in Germany for 2+ years and I also know that there is much more to German cuisine than the stereotyped(but very good!) fare on offer here. What about a veggie sausage/currywurst or even a quorn schnitzel? Come on — we are in Kingston after all… ;) Damn, those sausages really do smell amazing…

I went to Stein’s on a recommendation through Unilocal in my area and I’m not disappointed with my choice. I had high expectations because I’ve never tasted German food before, let alone even been to Germany but Stein’s made a great impression on me and my friends. The service was fantastic and excellent. I need to commend our waitress Diane for her great job at servicing us — she was right with us all the time and gave friendly recommendations. I had asked her for what her name for for the purpose of this review so that I could write this review. I was a little bit weary about the service given one review which said that their party waited ages to have their food ordered. I have had the opposite experience so I can’t comment on that. In any case, the setting by the river, the friendly staff, full housed restaurant and great food made me a fan! The food itself was delicious as were the German beers. By default, if you’re going to a German Restaurant, you must taste the beers. I do recommend trying the Erdinger Weissbier beer which is great for someone who likes wheat beer which is very sweet tasting. I ordered number #30 on the menu which was Nuremberg grilled sausages with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. The dish was cooked to perfection with the mashed potatoes deliciously creamy. The sausages tasted as you’d expect them but they were a little thinner than I would have liked. A friend of ours actually came quite late so we actually had 40 minutes to eat our food. This was definitely enough time which might mean that the dishes are quite small for some people. Personally, I was a little full but I didn’t finish off the sauerkraut which I think was a little too sour for my liking. All in all, it was a great German experience and I will most certainly come back whenever I feel the need for sausages. Of course, there are other things on the menu that I didn’t try out that were not sausages but you can’t eat everything at one go. As always, I attach pictures of not only my food by my friend’s with full captions on what they are.

Incredible beer garden by the river. Get 8 of you together and tuck into the metre-long sausage platter. Amazing German sausages and potato salad, fried potatoes and mash potato. Beautiful and you won’t be left needing more food. Make sure you get some nice mustard to go with it.

Good food, good beer, good hospitality doesn’t get much better than this place. If you like German food this place is a must visit.

Steins really should be a 3.5*, but I’ll round up for the lovely view. Sitting out next to the river on a warm summers night is definitely the way to go here! We don’t drink alcohol so I can’t say much in that regard — but the table next to us sure did like their beverages… We shared a pretzel to start, and it was lovely and firm and chewy. Definitely worth having with a few drinks, if you’re that way inclined. The wait for our food was ages. Like 30 – 45 minutes. It wasn’t that busy and no apologies were made, so I think this may be their model on purpose, as most people would have gotten through at least 2 beers in that amount of time. We had a couple of schnitzels, mine being the better of the two. It was a seasonal special with white asparagus and hollandaise sauce. Really lovely, but they did bring out the wrong meal to me — and by the time they replaced it, my dining partner was done with his meal. His schnitzel was fine, but having not that long before had an amazing, amazing schnitzel in Cologne, it was a bit of a let down and not as good as we’d hoped. But in isolation, it was a perfectly acceptable meal. If I was in the area, I could be tempted to pop in again but I definitely wouldn’t make a special trip there again.

Why does the happy hour from 5 – 7 include everything but beer? Seems like this place is trying too hard to fit into the German stereotype. It didn’t really feeel authentic German. «Let’s just call it Stein’s and put the entire menu in German, they’ll fall for it!» Although no food was consumed at our table, heard several complaints from other customers around me about their meals. However, I can’t stop thinking about that stein of dark Paulaner I had. Based on that, I will happily back up their selection. Additional pluses: Free wi-fi and right on the river.

Loved the cheesecake. Perfect location to sit outside next to the river and enjoy a lazy day.
