The staff are unprofessional never shopping in here again. A member of staff thought it was acceptable to call me a stupid cow infront of my daughter. What makes it even worse is the fact that she was working on customer services. i reported the matter to the duty manager I will be taking the matter further. Very much annoyed!

I’m not a fan of ASDA Hulme… It’s great in that it’s huge, even had clothes and technology stuff upstairs… The downsides far outweigh the good! The veg section smells like sick… in the last two weeks I’ve been 3 – 4 times and each time the fresh produce section stinks… it’s really off-putting and means I don’t end up buying anything fresh. There’s also a larger than normal amount of rude people shopping there. Pushing past you, generally irate customers… on top of this we always seem to get a member of staff on the checkouts that is stuck on slow… All in all I like having a good meander around to see what the retail giants have on offer but I find when I visit ASDA Hulme I just want to get out of there ASAP. Sorry ASDA Hulme you just don’t cut mustard… and you stink…

**** 28÷5÷2012 I AMOUTRAGED. I LOVEMYLOCALASDA. But you’re all pretty correct, it is a bit shite. They even have a mobile Police station dedicated to them. Brilliant… The main thing(by which I mean the largest, rather than suggesting that there’s only one thing wrong with it…) that they struggle with is organisation. As is the case with almost all establishments, the staff and the management thereof create the problems. HOWEVER, I have to say, and I’m going to sound like a huge fascist — the customers could do with switching on too! Range of stock is pretty good, and I really enjoy the ethnic foods isle, as it stocks some things I can just pop over and get if I can’t get into china-town. The self-service checkouts are always a debacle, but that, again, is half the customer’s fault. When it’s busy, it’s a killer, and they don’t do much to relieve the strain. On our brains. On a side note, I once went into ASDA first thing in the morning, it was still, and quiet, and they’d just started putting stock on top of the shelves to save space and time. the fullness and pristine look of the shelves was truly beautiful. I went in again that day, about two hours later. Hell. Necessary. 4⁄10 **** I love ASDA though really.

Asda Hulme is a peek into the future of British retail, where supermarkets grow larger and larger, absorbing businesses and sectors until everything is ‘provided under one roof’ in a gigantic homogenous blob. Choice is exchanged for convenience, quality is sacrificed for price, and the shopping experience becomes alienating as staff and consumers are separated further and further from the farmers who grew the produce. Asda Hulme is a one-stop-shop for everything from groceries and clothing to pharmacy and homeware. If you’re especially peckish, you can even grab a McDonald’s on the way out as there is a restaurant in store. For a shop so large, there are remarkably limited choices on offer in regards to groceries, especially in terms of fresh fruit & veg and bread. The layout is also fairly strange, so it can take a while to find things you are looking for. I imagine this would be particularly frustrating if you are shopping with young children. There are plenty of other local supermarkets within driving distance, as well as some wonderful local markets and producers which would provide a more pleasant shopping experience.
