I used to pass this place on my way home from work and heading back to glasgow. At Nardini’s they have a great selection of home made ice creams and have a kiosk on the pavement as people pass by they can have an ice cream without going inside. There is a good selection of teas, coffee’s and iced drinks. A good selection of patisserie for a light snack. They have pasta dishes, salads, Filled jacket potatoes’, hot filled rolls, burgers and pizzas. They make their own bread rolls here. High teas from £8.95. A nice place to go to in the summer even though they are open all year round can get a little busy in the summer season.

This really is an amazing café. I know I said in a different review that another café was the best in Largs, but now that I’ve spent some time in here(today), I really think this one is better. To start with it’s very attractive inside and, from several tables, there’s a great view of the Clyde and the Cumbrae ferry. There are ceiling fans and interesting pictures and ornaments around the walls. The smoothies aren’t cheap(£3.10) but they really are exceptionally good. The Italian coffees, and the teas, are really excellent too. The coffees come with a little biscuit on the saucer. The menu is large and you can find many delicious light meals and snacks: pizzas, baked potatoes with various fillings, salads, burgers and sandwiches. The gorgeous cakes are freshly baked. There are truly fabulous ice creams on offer too, with marshmallows, pieces of coconut, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, fresh fruit and even more! The ones on the children’s menu are actually shaped into cartoon characters I was amazed to see them. The downstairs toilets are easily accessible for everyone and there is a disabled one too. If I have any criticism at all it’s only to say that the very young waitresses could be a bit friendlier and more welcoming they were perhaps just a bit shy so I won’t take off any stars!

The tradition of going doun the wata from Glasgow for your summer holidays may have faded away but this year saw the rebirth of a Largs institution: Nardini’s Ice Cream Palour, Restaurant and Café. Prominently located on the main coast road as you come into the centre of the town from the north, with striking 1930’s(?) architecture it is hard to miss and nor should you! For shear variety and quality the ice creams are hard to beat and as well as serving traditional flavours including strawberry, chocholate(Belgium full bodied and gutsy mind you, no watery ices here!) there are new and exciting combinations including peach and passion fruit or Irun Brew! Visit soon!
