I always think back fondly to my first year, when everyone used to run into Aladdins in search of beer. They do not sell alcohol. The staff in Aladdins have always been incredibly friendly, and I really rate their magazine selection. As well as the usual culprits you’d exect to show up in small newsagents such as this(think Heat magazine et al) they also sell trendy expensive artsy fashion magazines such as POP, Dazed and Confused, Love and i-D. It doesn’t seem right somehow, but I’m not complaining, it nice to see something you wouldn’t expect from time to time. They have a good selection of tinned goods and confectionary, but if it’s anything filling and nutritious you’re after, you’re in the wrong shop. If it is just something small you’re after, Aladdins is a good alternative to avoid the One Stop queues, and it is worth mentioning that their milk is slightly cheaper.

I got excited when I saw the name of this shop. Almost all of a sudden Arabian Nights popped into my head… Arabian nights… Like Arabian days… anyway, my excitement faded as I realised this was just a Newsagent and not the kind of stuff Magic Carpet Rides are made of. Whether it’s stationary, sweets or just a pint of milk that you need, Aladdins will have it. It’s just basically a newspaper shop but with a better selection of magazines. I like to go here to have a browse around. And there’s still something a little bit exciting about going into a shop named Aladdins… A whole new world!!!

Aladdin Newsagent is one of those slightly old fashioned looking Newsagents compared to all the bright chain stores popping up everywhere such as Spar and One Stop. I always come in here to buy my milk as it is a little cheaper than the usual and is also locally farmed. The owner is very nice and the shop sells all the usual Newsagent culprits such as biscuits, crisps, ice creams and other sins. They also stock various bits of stationary, string, balloons and other bits if you are in a mad last minute rush to make something and haven’t had time to go to a proper outlet. They also sell an unusually wide selection of magazines that you wouldn’t find in other Newsagents, especially a small old fashioned looking one like this. I would guess that the free flow of students passing the shop inspired them to start stocking such magazines. Examples are Bizarre, Tattoo, ID, and a whole load of other alternative and arty wonders. I don’t read much in the likes of mags, but I am always tempted to buy one when I am here., and I am sure if you are looking for a particular mag that is a bit hard to find they will have it. If not, they will order it for you.
