Booze Bin is somewhat of an institution amongst Hyde Park’s predominantly student community. The older gentleman and man that run the shop are well known, almost earning their right to be placed in the unofficial Hall of Fame of Hyde Park characters. Somethings in Booze Bin are exceptionally cheap(in the way of pretty decent wines), others are about the same as you’d expect to pay in supermarkets around the corner. Their selection of alcohol is probably best and most varied in Hyde Park, bringing people back in time and time again: on the way to house parties, or stocking up with wine for an evening in front of the telly. Don’t expect to find a well-stocked shop in Booze Bin. They sell pretty much what the sign spells out, plus an assortment of sweets and crisps. If you’re looking for bread or a paper, you’ll have to go elsewhere!

Situated in the heart of Hyde Park, Booze Bin is a typical student ‘offie’. The selection of spirits, beer and cider is slightly bigger and cheaper than what’s on offer in the Jackson’s down the road — though you’re better off shopping there for wine — and the selection of sweets on sale make sure the customers survive on a little more than a liquid diet, even if it’s strictly beer and Haribo. Some of the special offers are pretty good, but it’s not as cheap as it could be and on Friday and Saturday nights the queue has been known to stretch out the door. For an interesting piece of Leeds trivia, check out the building’s side wall — site of a commissioned piece of art infamously painted over by blundering anti-graffiti council officials…
