If you have seen my review of Wagamama or China Jade you will know that I absolutely adore oriental cuisine. Over the past few years I have tried and tested many a Chinese outlet in the hope to find a delicious meal. Unfortunately there are so many bad places out there. Charlie Chans is one that I am on the fence about. For starters, before I go on, I just want to explain that this review is about the large chinese buffet /take away on Queens Road which has the glass front where you can see and view all of the trays of food and seating area. Not the small one with the black painted exterior which keeps coming up in my search engine. It is there, honest. The sign outside reads ‘Charlies Chans’, with a random extra ‘s’ added on. Maybe they are trying to stand out? Be quirky? and therefor catch the eye of customers? Hmm. I’m not so sure. One of the ladies behind the counter is brash, stern and rude. She constantly looks like someone has turned off the switch on her face so that no facial expressions exist, and her eyes look dead. «Wahey!» you’re probably thinking…“Great! Just how I like my service!“ It is slightly unpleasant but despite this, every time I have had take away it has been pretty good. Reasonable. And by no means as bad as some outlets nearby. Although, friends who have eaten in the buffet say it is terrible. If you are going to eat here, do not eat in. The food in the buffet trays have probably been there all day congealing or quite possibly recoiling from the lady with the face.
