Chicko’s Fast Food

Ok, this place is my goddamn temple. My friends and I love chickos because they make wicked caribbean food (their Jerk Chicken meal is incredible) and it’s such a great value. For students, or anyone who’s looking to mow down on delicious, late-​night food… this is the place. Shout out to the delivery guys who bring our food right to the library lobby. And they play sick, throwback music videos while you wait for your food. Cheers to Ja Rule.

OK, so we all know what it is. It’s not a delicious and healthy meal that one would look forward to with the relish of someone who’s not eaten out in months. But, after a drunken escapade in Leeds town, this is the place that I look forward to. The food is not good for me, but it tastes damned good after several pints, and it’s a little treat to pick at in the taxi and then devour once you’ve arrived safely home.
Not last time. Sadly, they’ve dropped the ball on those chicken burgers, and my last couple were dry. Same cool service, same swiftness, but just a little dry. It’s a small thing to complain about, and I’m hoping it was just a few one offs, but their chicken burgers — previously a whole juicy well cooked battered chicken breast — was just not up to their usual standard. Whilst there are certainly bigger problems than this, as far as drunk food goes this is pretty much the only spot that I frequent. If I have another sub standard burger I may have to start risking elsewhere…

There are so many fast food places along New Briggate and they all look a little seedy but what the hell me waz hungry.
I was impressed by the choice in here and thought the prices were pretty standard.
I opted for kebab because I’m strange like that and was pleasantly surprised when one of the 6 staff behind the counter told me that the meal deal was on until 8 (not 5 as stated on the menu).
Service was reasonably quick and the kebab was ok (bloomin’ good for £2 with a pepsi thrown in).
I will definitely use Chicko’s again as I wish to sample their dumplings

I have to admit, I feel a little bit guilty about this review. Well, no, I don’t — I still feel a bit guilty about going to Chicko’s. I tend not to do fast food. I eat rubbish, but not really fast rubbish.
I was waiting for a bus on New Briggate, really hungry. And I caved. Chicko’s was screaming ‘chicken’ AND ‘pizza’. I wanted both. I wanted it then. NOW.
I was so hungry, anything would have tasted good. Chicko’s chicken-​topped pizza didn’t really, though. A big let down. Even if they have got burgers called ‘skyscrapers’.
