I have HAD to update my review to 5* I have received wonderful service from here; they have put my details on a list for a magazine that sells very quickly, and the lady also dug one out and saved one for me. The service is really personal and stands out from anywhere else. They have a really good selection of inspiring books here now. I recently popped along to a book launch here for Felt Mistress: Creature Couture which was great, the book was beautiful and there was also illustrations for sale by Jonathan Edwards, and he was doing personalised and ‘creaturised’ illustrations for those who bought the book. The staff were so friendly and there was a lovely buzz around the shop. We took our friends 3 year old little boy and he loved looking at the creatures and the other things around the shop. Colours May Vary is just the kind of shop that I love, and exactly what Leeds has been missing for some time now. It’s a small store situated inside Munro House, one of Leeds’ newest creative hubs, housing Café 164 and the independent Leeds Gallery, so it’s a perfect location really in terms of neighbours, but a little off the beaten track. I hope this doesn’t hinder any of these business’ because I love them all! Colours May Vary sell a great selection of art and design magazines and journals, many of which cannot be found anywhere in Leeds. They also sell prints, gifts, books, cards and wrapping papers, in fresh contemporary styles. It’s a great shop for gifts for your creative pals, and also if you want to treat yourself. But for me, it’s the go to place for a good creative magazine or three! I find places like this are lacking in Leeds and I was so excited to see this store opening, I love to look over the gems they sell and find it really stimulates my own creativity. All I would like to see are more screen prints for sale, as I love browsing prints and discovering new illustrators. I wish this business and all those in Munro House all the best for the future, and hope the people of Leeds find their way down there. I know the independents are rising up and reclaiming Leeds as their own, and it’s amazing to see.
