I’ve been here a few times and have always thought it was(is) excellent. I had a bacon and egg sandwich, cooked to perfection in a perfect granary roll. Coffee was spot on too. The place is a little cramped, just the nature of the building really, they seem to have used the space available very well, I suppose one could just call it cosy!

Popped in for brunch with a friend and was pleasantly surprised with the size with seating along left side wall opposite an L shaped counter displaying some tasty looking treats and salads. At the end of the counter is some low stocked baskets of fresh baked bread where as opposite is a dresser of products they seem to sell on the side. Upon sitting down and deciding on a breakfast sandwich I rose to stand at the counter money in hand. After a minute or so of being ignored I realised the till to order was at the end towards the back of the room. Stood here my order was taken. I was brought my coffee which was made with grumpy mule which is a brand I’ve sampled at the Armley town street Hub but find it very strong & bitter. My friend who eats Halal had opted for a veggie sausage & egg sandwich which they then came over go advise they couldn’t provide and what would she like to swap for. When our sandwiches arrived they were medium bread baps/buns of soft bread. The fried egg wasn’t greasy and still had a nice runny yolk and my meat sausage was of a good quality taste. I think this place has great potential, it has the right groundwork and base to be amazing. It’s just not there yet. The service, food, drinks & atmosphere just aren’t there yet so chipped half a star each. I would visit again though but it’s not priority on my list.

Not tried it for any sarnies or or cakes but popped in for a roasted pepper and garlic ciabatta massive it was, and only £1.90. Very reasonable. Only thing that I didn’t like was being made to wait forever while the two people behind the counter sculpted some deli stuff and rye bread into a very tricky-to-eat-looking tower/sandwich.

Nice to see fresh bread being baked, a variety of it too, and at acceptable prices. But for sandwiches and lunches this place falls down. It’s ridiculously overpriced for very basic butties, and(I know this is a personal one) there tends to only be one veggie option a day unless you go for something very plain. I brought my daughter here one lunchtime and we really struggled to choose any food. She ended up with a quiche she didn’t enjoy, and I with an absurdly tiny £4 sandwich. Annoyingly, drinks and cakes are expensive too. We left £13 poorer and unsatisfied. However this could all be overlooked if the atmosphere was a bit nicer. But bored looking staff and uncomfortable seating make it fairly unenjoyable all round especially knowing we could get a filling lunch, with a smile, for half the price across the road at Wrap and Roll. You’d be better off with a Greggs in the park.

Potentially great sandwich shop in Chapel Allerton, I’ve only been the once but the BLT I had was a tasty one and the atmosphere is welcoming. The outside space on Harrogate Rd is really nice when sunny. Unfortunately, It’ll never be able to compete with Gregg’s for price, but the quality and atmosphere make it a worthwhile lunch stop — and it’s good to have another independent(I think) sandwich shop in Chapel A.

I have been on a mission recently to find fresh bread in Leeds. As I was hosting a dinner party on Saturday 20th November I needed Artisan French bread. Having searched Bakeries in Leeds, very few appeared and those that did in Chapel Allerton have subsequently ceased to exist. However, I found one bakery that I called and visited(I will not name them) to discover that although they bake bread fresh, they add butter and milk to it! Not traditional at all! En route decending along Harrogate Road I came accross Crust and Crumb and there was fresh bread displayed. I walked in and had a lovely conversation with Nicola the Baker about bread, her techniques and ingredients(I do not eat dairy products). I bought the Artisan Baguette for £1.10 and it was delicious. The following day it was stale(as real bread should be!) so I grilled it for toast! Crust and Crub has only been open 2 weeks and I plan to visit again this week to buy more bread and perhaps even sample some patisserie there. I recommend this place for lunch as the ambience(seating and lighting) and cost are ideal. The location is central Chapel Allerton(ironically next to Gregg’s).
