So, not so long ago I needed some red tights. Think what you will, but I’m a fan of bright and colourful and I had recently purchased a delightful red shirt that would look more delightful with some matching tights. I’d slogged around the standard shops, H&M, Primark and the rest, and there was no joy. Plenty of bright colours but no red tights. Not a sausage. Enter Dorothy Goodall! I was making my way through the market to browse and spotted this lovely stall — right there before me were these gleaming red tights. They were a reasonable price and the lady assured me of their quality, which was evident once I started wearing them, and I was pleased as punch. Throughout the rest of the stall you can find a number of stockings, tights and socks ranging from basic wear to the more glitzy and glamorous varieties. They are purely dedicated to hosiery, so far as I could tell, and I’m sure would stock leg négligée that would meet even the more discerning tight-hunter’s needs. A fab little shop in the ever delightful Leeds market, definitely worth a visit!

Cheap tights are a false economy, I have decided. You can buy all the colours and crazy patterned ones you like, but if the material is of an inferior quality and starts rubbing my legs… happy, I will not be! I got a bee in my vintage bonnet about this a little while ago and rashly threw out the substandard hosiery. Which, subsequently, left me with no tights. In the middle of Winter. I was busy trying to restock, when I stumbled across Dorothy Goodall after diving for cover from Vicar Lane, whilst under attack from torrential rain. Although the stall is modest in size, it certainly has a wide range of tights, knee socks, leggings and every other hosiery related product imaginable. The woman who owns the shop was extremely helpful and guided me in the sizing differences of certain makes. I ended up somewhat splurging on that first visit, and have since been back to top up my collection. The tactical shopper buys what they want but spreads it over a few trips, so the cost dissipates, erasing it from the monetary memory! I know one thing though, my legs are finally satisfied. A lovely place to stock up on plain basics and colourfully, patterned tights.

Dorothy Goodall(‘famous for legwear’) is a dedicated socks, stockings and tights shop. It sells a wide range of styles at a range of prices — £5-£6 for fishnet tights and up to £12 for tights with unusual designs. They also have regular sale items at around £3.50. The lady working there on my last visit seemed lovely — very friendly, helpful and informative. Every time I walk past Dorothy Goodall I always have a gander as there always seems to be some weird and wonderful new style of tights on display! I love the fact that it was established in 1963 and is still going strong and selling some really unusual styles that would look cool in Topshop. They also sell many traditional plain and skin-coloured tights and stockings that I imagine are popular with the elderly ladies who frequent the market. They sell a range of socks in plain black, grey and a range of bright colours and gloves both bright and stripey and more mature dark leather. This is a shop that really has something for everyone, the elderly lady, the average bloke and the young woman with a passion for unusual fashion… I have a feeling this is what has made Dorothy Goodall stand the test of time.

Dorothy Goodall has been running since it was established in 1963. A shop that sells all things feminine and leg orientated, it is very much an in trend place for a snoop at the moment! With tights, knee highs, stockings and suspenders, all clothing items to spruce up your legs in this cold weather are sold here. Prices are good, and you may argue that Primark is cheaper, but you get more customer service and individuality if you happen to be passing this stall in the market. Being a big fan of tights, especially the jazzier variety, I give it a big thumbs up!
