Glendor is a veritable Aladdin’s cave and is far cheaper than Homebase or B&Q for LOTS of things. If they don’t have it in stock, they can often order it in for you. If you don’t know what you exactly need, you describe the problem or what you’re trying to do and they can tell you what you’ll need. They have all manner of ironmongery, lighbulbs, joinery/plumbing/electrical tools and materials and PPE. The only downside is they’re closed Wed and Thursday:(

Without really knowing Hyde Park that well at the start of my time here, I desperately needed a key cut, without being charged extortionate prices by landlords, who offer to do it for you. Embarrassingly, the only DIY shop I knew, when I lived halfway between Hyde Park and Headingley, was one I noticed when I had partaken in an Otley Run in my first year. It was next to the second pub. Now, I have indeed realised that there are many DIY shops that were closer to my old house, by a mile. Had I known this though, I would never have wondered into Glendor’s, a local DIY shop that oozed charm both outside and within. A lovely Yorkshire man helped me out, charging me a pittance for a new key to my house. During my visit to far Headingley, I managed to also bag myself some brilliant large paintbrushes that I still have(somewhere) to this day.
