From the signage of LB’s I thought that they might have been another indie Caffe Nero, or similar. I’m not sure why, perhaps it was the calligraphy font or the vintage green colour in the backdrop. Nevertheless, as I emerged through the doors I didn’t expect to see a very down to earth greasy spoon style café. I wasn’t disappointed, don’t read me wrong, it was simply not what I had thought it to be before entering. I didn’t change my plan though, I set out for coffee and a cake and no greasy all day breakfast was going to distract from that, as tempting as the nearby builder’s breakfast appeared. I ordered my coffee and *double* victoria sponge cake with the friendly waitress, who was seemingly single handedly running the café, and held out my hand for what I imagined to be a disappointing amount of change from a fiver. Not so! The sponge cake and coffee came to less than £2.50 — what a bloomin’ bargain! I settled myself in, almost expecting the coffee and cake to be made of cardboard for those prices. Again, my expectations preceeded me. The sponge cake was totally divine — utterly gooey and soft, dusted with icing sugar, thick with cream and jam and just fantastic. The coffee was fairly decent, albeit an instant, but then I’m happy to go with a cup of instant every so often. Since it was under a quid I can’t complain. The café also has a recently opened fish restaurant attatched to it, called Seafarers, which seems to be quite nice and certainly reasonable in terms of price. Other features of the café include a stair lift, for those who need extra assistance, a range of homely café style meals — such as lasagne, scampi and so on. Oh yeah, and those meals are all pretty much under a fiver too — that’s some cheap eats! Seats are comfortable, if a little cosily spread out, and(as mentioned) the service is really friendly. All in all, a really pleasant experience!

Good range of food on the menu including veggie version of their big breakfast. Prices starting from £1.10 for a hot sandwich takeaway. Newsflash…comfy chairs. An open dining area with very plain décor but all is clean and the variety is good. Very friendly atmosphere too. Best of all it’s open Sunday.
