Travelled all the way here from Scotland to visit my family in Horseforth I lived here myself 25 years ago leaving when I was 16 this was my local chippy even when at Horseforth school. Must say I was totally disappointed that they apparently don’t take uk money unless it says England on it! After taking my order I tried to pay and they said they have to refuse any Scottish money– too many fakes. Fortunately the pizza shop 2 mins down the road by the old ball does, so we went there and had a fantastic pizza. New road fisheries has just lost my custom, my brother and his wife’s custom their 2 kids who go there from school, my parents and my sister and her family’s. I hope a lesson will be learned.

So-so standard fish & chips. As the reviewer before mentioned this place should be doing a roaring trade, but sadly there is too much choice in Horsforth to have to settle of this mediocre chippy. The chips are usually over-fried and crunchy, the fish non-descript. Redeeming feature the mushy peas are quite nice. I have been told that the sausage is delicious(as also indicated by the previous reviewer), but it’s not for me. They also sell Southern Fried Chicken, but as I have NEVER seen anyone buy it, presumably those who have either won’t or can’t buy again, I would not recommend it. This place used to be full of school kids on a weekday lunchtime so I imagine that’s were they get a lot of trade. Again too much choice to put Long Row in the top five this side of Leeds. Give it a miss if you can.

This chippy sits on its own opposite the Grey Horse, but, perhaps because you can park right outside, it does a good trade. However, it obviously doesn’t do well enough to remain open for more than a few hours at any one time, as I have found to my frustration on more than one occasion. Apparently it’s not that unusual for a fish and chip shop to open for lunch, shut in the early afternoon and then reopen for tea time, but for one in such a good location(right at the top of Horsforth’s Town Street) you’d expect one continuous period of business. If you can catch this place when it is open, the fish and chips are pretty nice, and they do a mean battered-sausage. It’s very reasonably priced as well… it’s just a shame you can’t enjoy it whenever you want to.
