Depressing day at the Owlcotes Centre? Feeling hungry as there’s almost nothing decent to eat within the Pudsey complex, then why not, weather permitting head over to Wok Magic for some emergency Chinese food, find a bench, snaffle your scran before hitting the train back into the city centre. With dishes averaging at £4.50 for non duck related menu pickings, the value for money is pretty good, as boiled rice or chips are included in the price, I think fried rice is about a quid more. I didn’t spot my usual Chinese style pork on the menu so opted for roast duck in plum sauce which was tasty without being overly greasy for duck. Feeling like a greedy beggar, duck, side of spring rolls and a fizzy beverage all came in way under the tenner mark, about £8, which was a score. I enjoyed it, I’m not mega fussy on Chinese cuisine, but I wasn’t violently ill, so kudos. For the lazy sods around you, there’s a delivery service, spend £7 and delivery is free.

When its sturdy manu came through our front door, I thought I’d give it a go. Their solid menu with an impressive choice of both Thai and Chinese dishes enticed me enough. Not only do they serve my favourite Crispy Chilli Beef, but the cook it to perfection, crispy and flavoursome enough for me to sit back and smile, feeling that the £4.70 was well spent. Their set menus start at £7 for one and go up to £35 for 5. Ben & Jerrys is on the menu for an extortionate £4.50, which is around the same price as their main dishes, but if you fancy a bit of desert, perhaps opting for a slice of cake instead for somewhere around the £2 mark would be better and within the budget!
