It was 8.45am and I needed coffee, or did I? After my previous days coffee outing I decided to plum for a nice cup of tea. I needed to pop into Leeds to pick up a few items and, along with my growing thirst, I thought it was another good chance to try one of the many coffee houses on my list. I stumbled through the door weary eyed and headed towards the counter. Apart from the girl serving behind the bar the building was empty. Was this an omen or just the fact it was just after 9am? Looking at the drinks menu a low distant grumble sounded out. Was it a train near by? A plane perhaps? Nope, I’d skipped breakfast and my body was telling me so. Glancing at the menu I was suprised at the variations on ‘breakfast’ that was on offer. After another look a different menu caught my eye. Boasting 24(12 being Vegetarian) sandwiches freshly made on either Granary, Baguette or Sliced Bread, this was an impressive menu. I plumbed for a pot of tea and a Sweet Potato Pakora sandwich with Tatziki and Rocket on Granary. So I sat on the brightly coloured stool, setup my laptop and climbed onto their free wifi for a little recipe search. Within a few seconds of ordering my tea had arrived and started it’s journey to the ultimate brew. Shortly after my sandwich arrived. What was laid before me was a cacophany of colours and smell. A bite, a chew and a swallow. Spice, sweetness, mint, yoghrt, pepper — an explosion of HAPPINESS finished off with a nut/grain digestif. So the sandwiches where good and the range of deli items where also good, but, there was still a problem — Atmopshere! Now if this was down to the early hours of my visit or due to the all over wooden furniture(coloured in red) I was not sure but there was something lacking from the building. I don’t want to take this away from the quality of the food and the service from the girl working though as both of these where brilliant. This is a good little food spot and somewhere to return to. I still have 11 Vegetarian sandwiches to try after all.

My wife and I have been here twice and had good experiences both times. The espresso is much nicer than you’ll find at the chain shops but not quite as lovely as Layne’s Espresso. The décor and atmosphere, however, is absolutely stellar. You can tell these people really care about what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. Couple that with their amazing baked goodies and you’ve got a pretty great coffee shop. My only complaint is that both locations are pretty small, so it doesn’t take many to make the place feel crowded.

Out of the Woods is my local sandwich shop & all round fab independent café(yes, I am that lucky!) and I’m telling you, they do a mean sandwich. They also do lots of other goodness that you’re bound to love. I can be a fussy eater. I don’t do rocket, I’ve only just tried brie, I’m a bit strange about chutneys but the salami, goats cheese and mango chutney sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. Even the rocket in it tastes nice. If its breakfast you’re looking for, the choice ranges from porridge & granola to pastries and fruit. The breakfast smoothie is one of the best I’ve ever had. Seriously good. On top of all that, you can even buy Yorkshire Crisps and Lottie Shaw’s parkin! YES! Seriously though, this is a good place, it isn’t too pricey and the menu is varied. Plus, they won’t judge you. I went in in PJs once when I was unwell & they didn’t bat an eyelid! Nice peeps!

The first time I came here, I got lost but Im glad I persevered! This is a really awesome café. I love that they use a great brand of tea(not that bland, dusty Tazo that other places love) and the sandwiches are great. The big windows are great for watching the world go by for an afternoon.

Out Of The Woods is an awesome little coffee shop. I’ve never visited their original store on Water Lane but the Granary Wharf place is a beauty. Really nice food(I recommend the ginger and cinnamon oatmeal cookies!), very good coffee and a really, really nice atmosphere. The place is decked out perfectly, really rustic yet somehow super modern. Really great place to visit. I’m just hoping they open another store closer to my place of work — hows about it guys? =)
