Centre? Centre of what? I mean this is really just a couple of big shops and if you’re not into M&S or Walmart then you’re out of luck. If you are intending to do mega shopping it’s probably better to get the bus into Leeds or round the ring road to the White Rose Centre. I tend to at least partially judge any ‘centre’ by the eats(I know, I’m very sad and slightly over weight) and The Owlcotes fairs very badly offering a small McDonald’s which doesn’t offer the full menu and ASDA café which I have to say doesn’t seem to offer much edible at all. I can’t finish without conferring the prize for toilets I’d least like to need on the one here adjacent to the McDonald’s concession. Gross, filthy and obviously forgotten on the cleaning rota.

This has nothing to do with our furry flying friends, it’s shopping baby. I’m back in the saddle. Well I would be if there was really enough to get in the saddle for. We’re not talking the White Rose, it’s shopping light. So if you don’t like Asda or Marks and Spencer then turn around now and run for the hills. That said if you do then it’s not a bad option. Take the Marks and Spencer, we all know what they do but it’s a good store. It’s reasonably big, well laid out and personally I think it has more choice than its sister store in Leeds city centre. You’ll also not be involved in quite so many shopping rage incidents and it’s a much more civilised experience. We all love the food of our before mentioned friend and the food court is a nice one as well. Plenty of choices and enough calories to make my personal trainer weep for a week. Still we all need to indulge from time to time. You’ll also find a good home ware department downstairs so decking the house in some finer touches is pain free. As for the Asda, it’s a big bertha. I can’t get too excited about supermarkets but you’ll find most things in here and again the George department and none food related shopping area is big. Don’t go expecting a NYC experience but do go if you want a good old food shop, look for house ideas or love M & S.

The Owlcotes Centre, Pudsey, is by all accounts rather misleading when referring to it as a centre. Centre conjures up images of choice, lots of it, and variety. In reality the Owlcotes Centre, as a centre consists of the super friggin huge Marks and Spencer, JJB Sports, Boots, Asda, and I think I recall a McDonalds secreted somewhere. Aside from that, there’s not a right lot else to have a poke out, and branding it as a centre is somewhat misleading. The Marks and Sparks here is massive, and there’s easily a couple of hours worth of whiling to be had, but if you’re thinking of stopping off here for some retail therapy outside of these boundaries, I say jog along. Plus points are the parking facilities, of which there are plenty, with designated parent and child bays, in addition to disabled bays, and if memory serves me correct, I think it’s free. Individually the large shop floor space provides each outlet with plenty of variety within the chosen brand. Outside of this, there’s nothing more to add. Except that in Summer there’s an ice-cream van parked nearby if you don’t want to feed the kids McD’s or Marks and Sparks café food.

Masses of parking and easy access another shopping centre to detract business from the towns epicentre and add to its deterioration and homogeneity. This said having not been a Pudsey resident it could well be that the centre has revived shopping in this area allowing people to stay closer to home rather than trudging into Leeds city centre. Housing the big names such as Asda and M&S Owlecotes Centre gives shoppers a sheltered environment for many kinds of retail needs.
