I had often walked past this shop, chuckled at the slightly bizarre name and somehow got the impression it was one of those lingerie and bed clothes shops primarily frequented by older women and that hasn’t changed its stock for decades. I don’t really know why I got this impression… maybe something to do with the beige sign. Aanyway, due to my dire need of a new bra, I recently decided to put aside my preconceptions and biked over there on a freezing cold day. As soon as I entered, the woman on the shop floor invited me to warm myself up by the heater… a welcome treat for my numb toes! She began to discuss her range of products and seemed very knowledgeable, advising me on fit and instantly guessing my bra size! She had the warmth of your favourite school dinner lady and made me feel at ease and welcome to browse around. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the bras on offer… many with a vintage, lacy look. There was a good range and yes, some Barbie pinks but overall I found quite a few styles I liked… maybe their stock has changed since Alexandra’s visit. For a bra-fitting with friendly and knowledgeable service, I would definitely recommend Sensual Options. If you’re looking for a decent-quality bra or underwear and you like the lacy look, you’re likely to find something for you.

Living in close proximity to Sensual Options I’ve often walked past this shop and wanted to have a look but never quite had a strong enough reason to go on a special trip just for underwear. This time though I had my Mum to stay and we’d both been eyeing up this lovely pair of pajamas that they had on show in their window for a week or so. I went along to have a look and found that there was a reasonably large selection of matching under garments, in different colours and laces and trimming, arranged quite nicely around the shop. Perhaps the stock on show had been recently changed since Alexandra’s review as I didn’t see too many offending items within — it all seemed fairly reasonable. Nevertheless, that’s not to say I found anything that I simply had to walk away with(but sharing Alexandra’s sentiments re underwear I doubt that I would have anyway) although I certainly found the shop to be ok, with a helpful friendly lady on hand to help if I needed. I guess if you really needed some new undies this wouldn’t be somewhere to ignore completely, but don’t make a special trip either.

I am not a massive fan of the patriarchal force in this society that encourages women to make themselves look any different to how they do naturally, in order to feel sexy. However, I do own the odd pair of lacy pants(cue the Churchill dog voice. steady now) and I admit that I enjoy having nice underwear. But, ‘nice’ is definitely a matter of opinion. To me ‘nice’ means not falling apart at the seams and not 500 year old massive ‘Bridget Jones style’ granny pants(we all have them, unfortunately), obviously. But at the same time I don’t think lingerie should have to look like it has fallen out of Katie Price’s back pocket on a trip to Ibiza to be ‘nice’. Slutty and cheap in my opinion resembles a barbie doll(which as you know is a toy) and only labels the wearer in question as harboring all of the above as traits. Unfortunately, the produce sold in Sensual Options is just like this. With pink tacky bra’s laid over fake plastic bottles of champagne in the window, and a bright pink tape measure to match. Another retail fail. There is always room for lingerie, but it should be done with style. I would recommend something a bit more Dita Von Tease than Jordan. Sophisticated, burlesque garments are much more tasteful, and women wearing such threads look exquisite, stronger and sexier, and much more like the women of today should feel.
