I’ve actually endured a few meals from Spices in the past, mainly because a friend of mine decided he liked the place for some reason, but what the hell — at least I know I wasn’t jumping to conlcusions after one bad meal! I’ve tried a few different things off the menu, and the standout(in a bad way!) are the curries. I can honestly say I’ve never had a more disappointing curry in my life. I’ve tried a couple and they were both almost flavourless, with sparse meat that was bad quality. Considering this is presumably their speciality, that sort of sinks them for me — I’ve vowed never to order from them again! One thing that I do appreciate from their menu though is the mega kebab(I think it might be called the King Kebab but I’m not sure now!). Basically it’s a 2 person kebab that acts as a man vs food challenge or contest between friends(painful but fun, especially when you win on the very last bite you can muster!). To be fair they’re not that bad either, so Spices have redeemed themselves a star with it! Food aside, the prices are so-so and delivery times are average. Frankly though, I wouldn’t bother.

I always thought that this was the best indian takeaway in Leeds; the kebabs are yummy, the curry is delicious, and they had a pretty good selection of dishes. The prices are ok too. However. Something bad happened which made me fall out of love with this place. I ordered one of their chickeny kebabs, and asked for garlic mayonnaise(as i don’t like chilli sauce). I opened the lid of my mayonnaise and was greeted by a little guest. The presence of the guest made me feel rather unwell, but then as I moved the mayonnaise around, I happened upon another 3. So there were 4(pubic looking) hairs. Floating. I reasoned with myself that if they are not particularly conscientious about their hair droppings, they’re probably not too fussed about their kitchen hygiene, and possibly enjoy smearing raw chicken around their work surfaces. I will not order from them again, and unfortunately, we haven’t found an indian takeaway to fill our Spices hole. I shall not give up.
