Pool and pints. What more is there to be said about The Elbow Room? Well, the nachos are okay. The staff are hands down some of the worst I’ve seen in Leeds in a long time — on Saturday at 7pm I went to the bar and pretty much had to wave my arms at three of them who were stood not 5 feet away from me engrossed in whatever was happening on their mobile phones. It’s cheaper than the newly opened Roxy, but it’s also grimier which in turn to me at least means that it feels more ‘authentic’ to the pool hall dynamic that it’s trying to hit. So yes, probably the best pool hall in the centre of Leeds, but still leaves a lot to be desired on the staffing front.

Pool. If you like pool, you will, most likely, enjoy yourself here. Pool tables are in reasonable condition and a straight-ish cue is always to hand. Add to this some good midweek drink offers and you can see where The Elbow Room’s chief attractions lie. All that said, the food is terrible. Everything comes in deep fried form and tastes of little more than grease. So eat elsewhere but come here to relax, play some pool and drink cheap drinks.

I have something of a soft spot for Elbow Rooms, having been coming here now and again for a little over 10 years now. Whilst it isn’t exactly a place of shining perfection, it ticks a lot of boxes for me. First off, the pool tables are kept in good condition, with the only problem sometimes being that healthy pool cues can be in short supply when all the tables are in use. This is a small problem though, and one that the bar staff are happy to help with. Only yesterday the lovely girl on the bar came back with a couple of working cues shortly after we asked if there were any more. The prices for pool vary depending on when you go in, but are generally pretty reasonable. Drinks are alright too, with your usual selection of pints and a cocktails menu that hits 2−4−1 at certain times. Prices are average for the drinks too so no problems there. Another thing I do like about this place is the sheer amount of screens showing a variety of sport on them. If you like keeping an eye on the sport without it being the sole focus of attention, I can heartily recommend hopping on a pool table and keeping an eye on the screens in the background. I’ve not really highlighted any negative points, but there is a lack of sheen to the place that kind of makes it feel their hearts aren’t entirely in it, but things like the bar, toilets and general cleanliness are satisfactory rather than excellent. To be honest though, I don’t know of anywhere better for an afternoon of pool, sport and drinks!

Had a ok time at Elbow rooms but think the bar needs a make over. I like the pool and the food but the bar looks very dated. I been told some bad stories about service but i had no problem. Food took a wile but was good and not bad for the price. would try it again but still think it needs a make over.

A surprising 4 stars but worthy nonetheless. Have been a few times and always enjoyed it but never realised how good it is until I started doing Unilocal Reviews. I now realise it has great offers, well made cocktails, tasty good portion sized food and enough pool tables to avoid the necessity to queue very often. Monday nights are free pool for at least an hour and 241 cocktails until 8. Great spot post work and then if you fancy it, a burger for tea.
