You get the feeling that a business like this could only really still exist in a place like Bramhope. By this I mean it could only exist in 2009 in an age-old suburb of Leeds which still classifies itself as a village and is so fiercely proud of this fact that it refuses to let any kind of chain store even think about setting up shop here. Hence Bramhope has the quaint but still important Village Bakery — a business that I wouldn’t like to estimate the age of, it is the sort of place you just don’t see any more. Offering everything you’d expect from an old timey bakery, bread, pastries, cakes, the place does charge what I call ‘Bramhope’ prices(basically slightly overpriced) but that’s to be expected. If only there was a candlestick maker next-door this village would be complete. Alas, he moved away a long time ago.
