I know, it’s not exactly something brand new and exciting. But, I just love Yo Sushi. If you’ve never been(and the original Leeds branch is in Harvey Nics, so you might not have) it’s a kitch, Japanese, sushi conveyor belt extravaganza. If you have been, you already know that you can either pick dishes off the train, which are colour coded for price, and order extras to be made up from the extended menu. It’s not just raw fish, which suits me, since I don’t go for the sashimi. What sets this spot apart for me is the staff. I’ve been twice and both times I’ve had really great, friendly, informative service — it doesn’t feel insincere or over done, they’re just plain lovely there! If you’ve not tried the weird coconut latte drink, I suggest you give it a go. It’s given me the idea to use coconut milk in coffee at home, and that’s actually awesome. It doesn’t feel like you’re ever sat waiting for the particular dish you want to come around and the space is as cool as they always are. It can definitely add up to an expensive lunch, but I tend to get full rather quickly on rice so it’s great if you want something that feels healthy on the inside but won’t leave you floored with carbs. I’m a fan!

Okay, so this was my first experience in the whole to sushi thing and I actually really enjoyed it. When my group went in, there was 9 of is they sat us on two tables, but one either side of the belt so we could still talk. We also went in quite late, so anything we really wanted we predominantly ordered over being able to get off the belt(which was no issue to me). Being a vegetarian I was very careful if I were to pick anything up so I ordered hot food mainly. I was really hoping they would have rice, which I found strange that they didn’t. Noodles instead were fine though. Vegetable tempura here is spot on, so much I had more than I probably should have done. I also got the chocolate pancakes and they were AMAZING. Only wish more of them came on the plate. Service was decent, I found the buzzer system quite a strange concept but I can understand why they would do that. Drink selection wise, I wish there was more, they don’t have a mass selection of drinks and what they do have is pretty basic — mostly bottles and cans which can make it expensive. Overall for my first time there I was quite impressed. I would definitely go back because not only was it decent food but I enjoyed the different style of eating. Picking and choosing and having food in small quantities is really nice. Overall good place and they have a 25% student discount which made my meal with drink around £14.

Yummyyyyy! I’m a big fan of sushi so was well excited to discover that Trinity Leeds would have it’s own branch, rather than having to traipse uncomfortably through Harvey Nicks, feeling very out of place, to get my fix. As it’s part of a chain, the Yo! experience was much as I expected, yummy dishes going around on the belt, and delicious options to order from the menu. I’ve been in a few times since it opened and it’s always been pretty busy, especially when there’s a promotion on, and as someone who could easily eat their own bodyweight in sushi, I need the promos to make filling my face affordable. I must admit I was a bit disappointed that the restaurant wasn’t a bit bigger, but there are a few booths kind of hidden around the back of the belt which gives a little bit of extra room. This branch of Yo! loses a star from me compared to the Harvey Nicks branch as the only time I’ve been and had to use the facilities, the toilets were a mess! A broken sink, water all over the place, toilet roll everywhere… yack! Reading others’ reviews about the toilets being nice though, perhaps this was just a one-off? Hmmm will have to go again to see… Blue Monday anyone???

I went here on Sunday bank holiday evening on a random mission for some raw fish. We thought we’d try the new Yo Sushi seeing as we’ve never been inside it. On entering it felt way more spacier than the little corner you get in Harvey Nichols and the place felt more polished and new! The toilets were nice and clean, modern looking and new looking as well! It was surprisingly not very busy! We got straight to the table and the staff were pretty friendly. No problem with customer service. There was one nice lass who was really chatty. I decided to order a chicken yakisoba and a bottle of sake. I also had 5 things off the belt. I spent quite a bit! Come to think about it we’d have got a better deal at another Japanese restaurant. It felt as though this YoSushi had a lack of variety compared to the Yo Sushi in Harvey Nichols. It’s like they only put the popular choices on the belt. There were also no desserts on the belt. Maybe it was because I went in the evening? The orders I placed came quick enough though. I would go here again, but not in busy time. I can imagine this place is awful in peak time(weekday lunch and all day weekend) and the staff are stressed and on their feet.

I visited here with my cousin and her friend about a week ago. I like Yo Sushi and was happy about an opening of a stand alone restaurant away from Harvey Nichols. There was a bit of a wait for a table but this soon went down and was dealt with efficiently by staff who were generally friendly, though there was one girl with a bit of attitude. We were seated and we ordered food gradually which was fine and the staff were pretty efficient considering how busy it was. I tried the new ramen main which they offer, though I was very disappointed that there wasn’t a vegetarian option. I opted for the fish, but would hase chosen veggie over. It was good but I was expecting it to be better, a bit more spice and flavour in the broth; they offered chilli oil to spice it up, but I’d prefer fresh chilli than oil. The rest of the food was good. Just before we left they were clearing the conveyor as it was a cut off point for some of the food, and I was shocked at the amount of wastage :(I asked them what they do with the food, and they said that they have to throw it away for health and safety. It deeply saddened me to see perfectly good food go to waste.

We love eating here. The phrase ‘there’ll be another one along in a minute’ is so apt if you happen to miss the plate you had your eye on! The small dishes circle you and you just grab the one you want. If you are feeling impatient simply request a particular dish to be made and within a few minutes there it is. I haven’t had anything that wasn’t good and the beauty is you keep eating til you feel full. The sashimi is absolutely superb, as are the dumplings and tempura dishes. Loads of fun as well as being delicious. It isn’t the cheapest place to eat but for a treat it’s terrific.

I would recommend joining their mailing list on their website to get offers which include half price sushi from time to time. They have recently added new dishes to their menu including kobe beef(I’ve yet to try). It’s great for the kids as it’s a novelty taking dishes from the conveyor belt. The plates are color-coded, the green tea is refillable if you order it too!
