Great theatre, have been about 10 times over the years to see different shows. Needs some of the west end type shows to come here as a lot of the shows are unknown. Have seen some independents and smaller shows here that we’re very good. Facilities are very good with a nice waiting lounge.

I saw ‘Othello ’ at the Playhouse recently which was great! I work very near the Playhouse and look out for plays as I pass by and the choice is always impressive and varied. It has a café which is pretty good and worth a visit during the day. i recently went in at lunch time and was greeted by Lenny Henry in the queue.

I saw The Crucible here a few years back and found it rather clinically efficient, clean, large, symmetrical and sterile. It does the job without providing any supplementary atmosphere. The ushers are certainly efficient(after we managed to find ourselves in the wrong seats) and with the right production it really makes no difference that the environment doesn’t add any colour and fizz to the experience. I don’t know who does the lighting but I did notice that they did a great job, not that I have enough technical understanding to analyse the matter. I did find the drinks rather expensive(which I suppose is to be expected in a place this size with overheads to keep up to).

Visit at Christmas and usually book in advance to get good seats. I keep an eye on whats on, last visit was to watch ‘Tag’ graffiti type dance show, obviously each to their own in tastes but I thought it was great venue fir it, not too big, great view. Shame they don’t have more on there really but recommend people to keep check on what they have on and book in advance for good seats.
