My options for lunch aren’t very inspiring; go to the effort of making my own, a generic supermarket sanger or risk the café at work where I wonder wether the staff have ever seen a sandwich(No, judging by some of the efforts produced…). The saviour of so many lunchtimes has been Yum’s. They never fail to have something interesting on offer. There are usually several hot options such as pasta bake, burritos and a roast pork baguettes and a couple of really good sandwich specials. Highlights for me have included pulled pork with salad and chipotle mayo and ham, smoked cheese and onion marmalade both on sourdough baguettes. The footling hotdog was also a touch. You can also have your own sandwich made, they have loads of filling options and the cakes look awesome– its like subway if subway sold proper food! They do a large range of American sweets and drinks although every other shop in Leeds seems to offer these now. Yum’s also have a massive selection of beers and I believe they open for dinner in the evenings doing pizza etc, if I lived at brewery wharf I wouldn’t need to go anywhere else! They are a little expensive when you consider a meal deal at Sainsbury’s is three quid but what you get is vastly superior. One of their daily special sandwiches and a can of coke will set you back about a fiver which is pretty good as you’ll get something really tasty you will actually enjoy!

So, I work the Hunslet road side of the City so lunchtimes for me are just DULL and most of the time I don’t even venture out. Today, I wanted an adventure and took a brisk walk in the chilly midday to seek solace from my recent ill self in some good food. And there presented itself to me in the form of Yum Yums. I dropped in here last week after my lunch for a dessert attack so already knew what they offered and today’s selection delighted my eyes. As I wasn’t quite feeling myself I oped for a pre-prepared ciabatta sandwich rather than creating some weird combo and it consisted of– ham, cream cheese, tomato and piccalilli. I’m so glad I left my fate up to what was ready as it was a truly satisfying sandwich. I’m the sort of person who opts for Piccalilli for that mustard POW with the veg crunch and this delivered on all fronts. The bread was very tasty, the ham a good think slice and just enough soft cheese also featured. I’m happy I battled the wintry chill and ventured to this tucked away little gem, i shall be Unilocaling to all to go. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the service was a bit slow and the server a bit miserable. As well as food it also acts as a mini-market and proves itself to be a useful little world of food and drink and washpowder!

I pretty much just use this as a bodega when I can’t be bothered to go to the grocery store. It has a limited selection, but definitely the basics, and a great deli. I absolutely LOVE that they’ve been expanding their«American» section. It’s a little pricey, but hey, they’re imported! And sometimes a splurge on Lucky Charms or Dr. Pepper is totally warranted. I also think it’s kind of cool that if you go to eat there, you can buy a bottle of wine or beer from the shop and have it with your meal… it definitely beats the insane markup at Oracle!

Working in Leeds city centre you would think that there would be any number of places to grab some lunch but I’ve found that there is only so much sandwiches and microwaved crap you can take before you get bored. I’m not normally one for bringing food in from home either. Yum yum a bit of a unusal little shop. The feel from the outside says café/deli but its more like a small convenience store where you can sit and eat your lunch in the middle of it. There are tables and chairs inside and out and there is the option to take away. The food is nice home style cooking and it cost around £4 for one of their hot meals. They ALWAYS have lasagna with either garlic bread of salad(personal favorite because the cheese on top is lovely!) then there are normally two or three more hot choices. Their roast chicken with red wine gravy with bubble and squeak was most delish when I had that the other day. They do also have cold options like sandwiches and salad boxes but I havent tried these myself. Not exactly budget eating but if you’re after homely hot food for your lunch I would defiantly recommend yum yum’s.

Yum Yum is a useful place to have in the vicinity. I used to frequent it regularly when I lived in Brewery Wharf. The deli section sells a full menu of sandwiches, soups, cakes and a delicious selection of hot specials. I had a very tasty red Thai curry with jasmine rice just recently. There is a seating area both inside and outdoors to eat at. They serve a lifesaving full English breakfast at a reasonable price, and can be responsible for reactivating your brain, following a night out. The other side of Yum Yum is a convenience store, selling fresh fruit and vegetables, pastries, tinned goods, various snacks and a range of wines and beers. They are significantly overpriced, but that is the cost of convenience. I also think their nearby rival Simpsons stock a far better range of products. All in all, it is a useful place to have around, but there are superior alternatives in the area.

Yum Yum is tucked away in Brewery Warf and sells fresh foods and packaged foods. There is a small seating area outside for summer snacking and it great for local residents. The prices are what one would expect from a deli-type shop — modest but not unreasonable. Service is friendly and accomodating.
