Fantastic atmosphere on a Friday/Saturday night. Great place to start your evenings drinks straight after work, before a night out, especially if you’re headed towards the town center through London Rd. Prices are not the cheapest around, but definitely a gem of a bar with a great outdoor social space at the front. A ‘must visit’ for me along the bar crawl.

Great place to eat and drink and I would recommend this to who likes posh places and drinks are great and water is free and fresh and toilets are clean and great area where it is and had outdoor seating as well and I love this place and I enjoy chilling in there as well

Really nice pub with lots of room to enjoy a drink with friends. Possibly the best of all the places on London road. We’ve hired the private area for a big get together and it works really well. The pull across curtains to keep it private.

Big pub with plenty of seating. Food is excellent. Décor is quite nice.

The relaxed atmosphere, retro décor, wide range of cocktails and food served til late makes this a favourite among the bars that Leicester has to offer. Always a brilliant night out! You can also hire out the ‘Pits’ for a private party!

First lets be clear. Some of those sofas are not comfy and have seen better days. The one in the back room is a nice shape but the springs have gone way back in 1972 I reckon and they’re really difficult to sit in. That said there are nice cocktails and food. Decors been the same since it opened, it won’t stay trendy forever but will do for the time being. If I’m around London Road I’ll probably be in there but on a proper seat.

Related to the Orange Tree but not an identical twin. Good food and drinks with big sofas and funky decore makes this the only place I like to visit when I’m around London Road. The staff are friendly and there’s plenty of space outside the front to sit down. Great if you live on the London Road side of town.

Its not a bad place, but once a friend of mine went in, his name is Oswald and his cord trousers fell down, everyone laughed, even the staff! he was very ashamed, but saw the funnyside a few days later.

Cool 60s interior with a very trendy vibe. Cool music and a cool, posery crowd. Nice to go for an early drink it gets rammed later on. Pricey.

The Lansdowne has to be my favourite bar on London Road, its great for everything from a quiet lunch and couple of drinks with my girlfriend on comfy sofas, surrounded by the coolest 70’s décor to drinking amazing cocktails and listening to local bands playing at the Lansdowne Live sessions(FREE). The food never fails to satisfy — i’m a big guy and i struggle to finish the doorstep sandwiches with a hefty side of potato and sweet potato wedges(must have garlic mayo with these). And the Sunday Roasts are as great as the ones in The Lansdowne’s sister pub The Orange Tree. Pay a pound and they’ll sort you out with a cocktail card which gives you discounts on all of their cocktails everyday and a really cool cocktail night every Wednesday(so cheap — so good!) AD

Décor is like a cross between a 1966 Chevy Fleetwood station wagon, a Nixon/Fossil wood-grain wrist watch and something on the back of a 1973 Blind Faith LP. In other words, it is the glorious epitome of 1970s chill lounge grooviness(the closest thing to it in Seattle is the now defunct ‘The Apartment’ on 1st — RIP). Wide mix of folks from pretty to plain, chavs to posh, but no one was fugly(there were three extraordinarily attractive girls from Denmark the night I was there). Staff are a little standoffish, but they are competent. Crowd seemed open to conversation with foriegners which I found somewhat uncommon in Leicester. I would definitely return.

Part of the Orange Tree chain, and a very welcome addition it is too. They have nice comfy sofas, excellent cocktails(with money off if you have a special card, yippee) and very lovely food(the potato wedges merit a mention here — they’re totally phwoar). If you’ve come here for a break in lectures or on your lunch break, though — be warned. You might never want to leave.

I used to spend every Wednesday here when I was a student. It’s really spacious and has the same kind of quality menu and cocktails that the other Orange Tree pubs have. The décor is light and modern, lots of crazy lampshades and the local art you come to expect from the chain. Plenty of room out the front for smokers(covered too! Luxury!) and very friendly staff who are always happy to help. The toilets are always clean and the bar tends to have the minimal in stickiness so cleanliness standards are pretty high for that area of London Road. If you’re skint and really really thirsty I recently found out that they do fruit squash for like 30p or something, cheapest drink in the whole place — hooray!

The Lansdowne is open to 2am at the weekend. This tends to be the place to go if your local closes(and you live Queens Road area) and you fancy another one. It’s nice and big inside — don’t let the outside fool you(looks a bit wetherspoon-y) — it is part of the Orange tree chain so you get nice cocktails, nice food and a pretty good DJ at the weekend. Cocktail night is a Wednesday — black russians all around!
