Sardaar Restaurant

One of my favourite places to eat; great value authentic food with home cooked taste.

Saardar is certainly cheap but that is about the only thing going for it. A group of 8 of us went for a casual teatime meal. The service was terrible. We ordered our food, when this started to arrive half the table got their starters and the other half didn’t. Then the same people got their mains whilst the rest of us were still waiting for starters. When we asked about this the surly staff made an excuse that the food was cooked as it is ordered (? no I didn’t understand what they were getting at either). Eventually the rest of the starters were brought — cold. Things seemed to arrive in random order, such as a currys but no rotis until about 20 minutes later. One person ordered a salad which consisted of huge chunks of cucumber and onion topped with raw green chillis. Several of the dishes were so salty they were virtually inedible. If you want a cheap and cheerful curry on the Narborough Road there is a place 5 minutes walk further out of town, Star Vashnu Dhaba, that has a similar menu and prices but is much better. Do not be tempted by the Saardar!

Cheap food, friendly staff. Food can be variable, delicious samosas but sometimes the main meals can be a bit on the lean side, a few bits of paneer in LOTS of sauce. Very spicy too so be warned. Good choice of dishes as it’s all vegetarian.
