Always popular pub — easily accessible, set as it is in the middle of a roundabout. Good choice of decent, affordable food, though at busy times — and it is often very busy — service can be slow. On a sunny day, the Bowling Green is rammed, because of its extensive garden, but it’s actually much more welcoming in the winter, with its cosy sofas and roaring fires.

the bowling green has been a local drinking spot for me and my friends for many many years. it is now more of a common meeting ground for lunch time drinks or pre night out venue. The venue recently taken over by embers inns has a nice comfortable feel to it for a relaxed time but as it goes the staff here at times seem friendly yet laid back in a way that they will take their time serving you. i love coming here and always will when im back in the local area :)

My partner and I started regularly visiting The Bowling Green about two months ago. We thought we’d found a great pub, local to our house that sells quality, well looked after real ales, the staff are always very polite and friendly and the pub atmosphere and general décor and layout is lovely. We have eaten there about 8 times now and unfortunately, I have had to complain about the food 3 times out of those 8. When they get it right, it’s fantastic a varied menu, with food at a good price. However, when they get it wrong, it is very frustrating. Twice the food, once beef, once fish, has been overcooked, as if it had been heated up again in the microwave before being brought out to the table. On the third occasion, a pie had cold spots(as well as hot) in the middle. I had to wait 15 minutes for a new dinner to be cooked for me completely from scratch, while I sat and watched my partner eat his food. I find this most frustrating as if more care was taken, this would be the perfect pub for us. Why spoil a what could be a wonderful dining experience in a lovely pub, with nice staff and well kept real ales, by lack of care in the kitchen? So I am sorry to say, we won’t be going back there again. What a shame. UPDATE: Since writing this review two years ago, I am pleased to say that we have started visiting The Bowling Green again regularly. Friendly staff, good ales and the food has been fine I haven’t had to send any food back or had any complaints about it at all on my last 10 visits, since we started going again. I would now be happy to recommend the Bowling Green as somewhere to go and eat in Lichfield.

Very ember inns, which is one of the better pub chains. Saddly this is one of the weaker links on this chain. The food was slow and poorly cooked. I’d go back if I wasnt eating, but not for food.

This is situated just outside Lichfield City Centre and is a very nice comfortable pub to go and have a meal. The menu is quite varied and there is not normally much of a wait on the food. The meals I have had in the past are piping hot, well cooked and taste great. The prices are actually quite reasonable and you get a decent portion size. They serve standard beers and ales and although they are not the cheapest around, they are not too expensive.

I love The Bowling Green! It’s part of the Ember Inns chain, but don’t let the fact it is part if a chain put you off. It has a real home from home feel about it. I regularly end up on a huge L-shaped leather sofa with the hubby in front of the open fire, with my feet up and a glass of wine in my hand and no-one bats an eyelild. The food is very reasonably priced and always cooked from fresh. The menu changes regularly even within the same season. There are lots of real ales to choose from if that’s your thing, and some great seasonal offers on food and drinks.
