Good size café. Clean and well laid out. Good parking. Breakfast was good. Well cooked meat and eggs. Tea and coffee came on time and regular warm pots to follow. Scones are lush. I had loads of blueberry and White choc. One of the best scones I have ever had. It was warm with melted choc drizzled on top. Didn’t need any butter etc on it. Staff are very nice.

When my brother informed me that he had just the place in mind for lunch in Lisburn, I knew he’d make a wise choice, knowing the city much better than my sister and I. So, you can imagine my reaction when we pulled up outside this huge furniture store, just off the Moira Road. I thought he was ‘avin a laugh. He is awful witty(that’s where I get it from), but this was a new level of humour. What was he imagining? Lunch on the loo?! Well, apparently not, thank heavens. I was glad to hear that this humongous store actually included a bright and airy café. Done in the ever familiar canteen style(grab a tray, look at the menu, be told the menu is irrelevant, choose from the selection in front of you, take plate with food on, pay at till and eat), it seemed extremely random, given its surroundings. (Oh, and just for the record, it was situated right next to the bathroom section.) Anyway, I chose the chicken curry, my brother had some form of pie and wedges(allegedly chips, but they were definitely wedges), and my sister had chicken with stuffing wrapped in bacon. Well, that curry was tantalising to say the least. I was over the moon when I discovered it had mushrooms and pineapple too(not to everyone’s taste, but hey, that’s me), and it was just the right ‘hot’ for me. Mmmm. I was informed that the pie was«good» and the chicken was«lovely», so no complaints at all. Makes a change… At first glance, the prices seem a tad high(my curry cost £6.20), but all the profits go to selected charities which are identified on a large board in the middle of the furniture section. Indeed, all profits, from every aspect of the shop are 100% for these charities. I didn’t mind so much when I heard that. The furniture looks really good, very modern and sleek, and pricey(good pricey though). The first floor is cleverly laid out, with a lot of different little units comprising a café, a jewellery section and a bookshop. If you’re feeling generous, are in need of beautiful furniture, or need a bite to eat(or all three), Vic Ryn is the place to go.
