Abhakan Fabrics, Hobby and Home

Good selection. My wife purchased several balls of yarn to take back to the US.

Abhakan is an awesome shop if you know your way round a sewing machine, which I don’t. But I have family and friends who make up for my lack of ability with textiles and have often dragged me along.
Abhakan is a massive shop, spread over 3 floors. They have all kinds of fabric for every use you can think of, plus a large selection of haberdashery items.
The shop is always busy but somehow it manages to stay tidy and not end up like a jumble sale. The staff are very helpful and are always on hand for any advice or help you need.

What a gem! Abhakan Fabrics sells such a vast range of material and sewing equipment that if you’re wanting to start creating your own fashion pieces as a hobby or want to make cushion covers (well, you never know) then this is THE place to visit.
So I trawled in here one day on the hunt for furry fabric (I mean for a cavegirl outfit) and Abhakan immediately catered for my needs. The staff carefully measured out how much I’d need and the whole caboodle only cost me £3. Amazing.
If I decide to re-​take up knitting (not likely but you never know) then Abhakan’s will be the place I visit to select my needles and yarn.

Abhakan Fabrics is hands down the first port of call if you want to make your own clothes.
A sprawling shop that stocks hundreds of different fabrics, they sell everything from cotton, linen and organza to velvet, satin, silk, chenille, pvc, fleece and faux-​fur. Everything is reasonably priced and there’s a decent selection of patterns, dress linings, threads, zips, eleastic, fringe, scizzors and tape measures too.
Perhaps Abhakan’s biggest asset however, is the staff. Everyone that works there seems to be geuinely interested in arts and crafts and willing to give free advice on everything from the best material for summer dresses to how to stitch curtains and cushion covers. They currently sell lots of different knitting needles and yarns too. If only there was a local stitch ‘n’ bitch night…

If you need anything remotely to do with textiles, fabrics, unusual materials; if you’re a crafter or dressmaker, this is the place to come.
John Lewis, particularly the one in Liverpool One, is always a prime destination for the average crafter. After all there’s plenty to be had in one simple place, and I myself was found hunting around there when I was seeking replacement buttons. While this is all well and good, I feel a bit silly for not at least shopping around. On Textile Street, or Stafford Street as it’s officially known, there are a ton of hobby shops including this one.
As well as materials at really decent prices you’ll find the odd bit of homeware in here too. It might be a bit warehouse-​esque but if you’re willing to have a good old root it can be very rewarding. It’s been going for years and has grown over a long time, and the sheer volume of wool available as well as a craft shop makes it a hobbyist’s dream, without a doubt. With competitive prices and knowledgeable staff this is well worth a visit.
