5 stars! The sole reason for this it’s value for money. If you’re hungry, like Chinese food and only have £10 pounds in you’re wallet look no further. This is the place for you. For under £10 pounds(£6-£8 would do) you get a MASSIVE portion of decent noodle dish of various forms(you will not go hungry). Inside it has atmosphere is lively but sufficiently spacious. Service is also reasonable quick making it a perfect lunch spot. I won’t claim the food is the best ever but it’s certainly at least good if not better. What I will say is that is could be the best value for money I’ve experienced.

The two points are for décor, and presentation, along with staff efficiency. Though I would never eat there again. Got the full meal(with soup, spring rolls & krupuk, and a main course). The hot & sour soup was, for the positive, very nicely festooned with meaty, eggy, and veggie bits. I mostly strained those out of the oddly red soup base and left the rest of the odd red soup broth, even though the touch of vinegar and heat from spice was a welcome start to the meal. The spring roll & krupuk plate is even more of a bare-bones oddity — — a handful of plain old krupuk(that I put in a napkin and put aside for a snack for later) and spring rolls that were like crispy little fingers of strange peanut/pasty nothing, with a sweet sauce. The most insubstantial, small, and innocuous spring roll thingies ever. But the real atrocity was the«chef’s special» mains choice — — aubergine and minced pork hot pot. The listing failed to mention that the aubergine and minced pork were awash in a sea of oil. People speak of «hidden fats» in Chinese cuisine, but nothing was hidden here. It looked like a rich brownish sauce, but it was a hideous swamp of vegetable oil. What I tried to do was immerse the spoon in the sauce until the spoon was was full of yellow vegetable oil, and pour spoonful after spoonful of the oil into the remaining red drool from the soup. After doing that for a while, I decided to just pick out pieces of aubergine from the swamp — — but there was no hope — — the aubergine was soaked in oil. They were slimy, oily artifacts of pure fat. The entire«chef’s special» was a tribute to the fact, that oil will make you feel like you are eating something substantial, will seem alluring in a perverse fatty way, will gloss the entire meal with a reflective glow, and you can buy it cheap by the gallon. There is only one word to describe this main course, and the word is: ‘gross’. I imagine there are people who can eat a big bowl of vegetable oil and be satisfied — — but this is still hideous. I’ve looked at recipes for Chinese hot pot meals online just now, and the list of substantial ingredients(not to mention tasty spices) WAY predominate over the couple spoonfuls of oil — — but here, this was an oil dish, where oil was the major ingredient, and the insipid oil was the major flavor component — — a complete culinary abomination, and a dietary atrocity. I was actually inspired to go to a Chinese noodle shop after passing by another one on Berry St. the previous evening — — and it looked so alluring — — but that one was closed this afternoon, so I went to Big Bowl instead(thanks to the great reviews on Unilocal — — thanks a lot people). The good news(if there is any hope of good news after paying 8 pounds 50 for this conflagration of cheapest ingredients and bare-bones fatty nothingness — — with not even condiments on any of the tables — — they are that cheap) is that I went back to that one the following evening, and it was really delightful, and it redeemed my faith and interest in Chinese noodle shops, after Big Bowl had temporarily made the concept a horrorshow.

For the record I’ve never been here, nor will I. Ever. I would never frequent an establishment that doesn’t even bother to check the contents of the posts on their wall, providing any person a platform on which to shame, belittle or bully someone. Which in my case was postit which contained my FULLNAME and PERSONALTELEPHONENUMBER with the direction to tell me how great my assets are. Disgusting. I don’t know how long that post it with my personal information was there, and the person I spoke to on the phone not only didn’t even apologise but refused to provide me with his or the managers name, so that when I went to report this to the police they would know who I’d spoken to. Pretty sure i’m not the first person this has happened to, a notion I find absolutely disgraceful. I would NEVER recommend somewhere that take’s people’s personal security with such a pinch of salt.

The Big Bowl Noodle bar instantly became one of my favourite places to eat after only one visit… and I had only gone in there due to being stuck! It was Chinese New Year and, obviously, Liverpool was absolutely packed. I wanted to eat some Chinese food for lunch but every single place had queues out the door. This place did too but we had got tired of trying to find somewhere and just settled on this, both due to proximity and the fact that it seemed to have a lot of Chinese people eating there, which is always a good sign. Oh, it was certainly a find! As the name suggests, this isn’t fancy Chinese food — this is more like the sort of thing you’d eat on your lunch break if you were in China. Big, hearty, bowls of noodle soup! They offer plenty of other dishes if you’re looking for something else as well such as rice bowls, stir fries and more. For me though, the noodle bowls are most certainly where it’s at. You can even get a Tea Stained Egg. There are plenty of drinks on offer but I’m chiefly a Green Tea man so tend to stick to those. They sell Japanese Brown Rice Tea(Genmaicha) which is a personal favourite of mine. The starters we had weren’t the best to be honest. I get the impression they were frozen and then microwaved. Now, the rest of the food absolutely wasn’t done like this so this is really just a minor problem. Overall this is a great, authentic, café-like Chinese restaurant and absolutely worth a visit. I’ll definitely be returning!

The Big Bowl Noodle Bar in Berry Street is a cute and attractive looking little restaurant that serves a decent variety of oriental cuisine. On my fisrt visit to this restaurant, I ordered Teriyaki Chicken with plain rice. This dish cost me £5.50 which isn’t bad. I was swiftly seated, served and my plate came out within minutes of ordering. However, the waiter forgot to serve my glass of water. Anyhow, the meal portion was generous but I did find the chicken a bit salty and it lacked the sweetness of Teriyaki sauce. The rice also lacked stickiness and wasn’t the best of quality. Having said that, I would perhaps give the restaurant a second try as the staff are are a charming bunch and I liked the pleasant dining environment plus all the positive messages written on dainty hearts beneath the glass of each table!

Before coming to University I am ashamed to say that I had never before visited a noodle bar and now that is an unthinkable thing as I have become something of a fan. My new found love for noodles is credited in no small part to excellent establishments such as Wok It and of course Big Bowl Noodle which really is an excellent place to eat. The location here is perfect just outside of china town and a five minute walk from the centre of the city so convenience is the word here. I ventured in here one day on an aimless wander around the city and found it to be great and they even did a student discount which made them a winner in my eyes every time. The atmosphere here is great also and it feels very relaxed allowing you to really enjoy the excellent food they serve up. I’m no expert on Chinese food so I won’t attempt to make recommendations but one that I would make is that you pay this place a visit, you will not be sorry.

You like noodles? You like ‘em generously portioned? You like big bowls of noodles? Well then duh, the title’s self explanatory. Situated around Chinatown in Liverpool this Oriental eatery does exactly what it says on the tin, the very Ronseal of Asian cuisine. Here’s where you come for that amazing and unique mixture those in the East manage to master — comfort food that feels wholesome and light at the same time. The only time I’ve ever achieved that in my kitchen is with a big bowl of porridge for example. And I got bored halfway through, so comfort soon turned on me. So settle yourself down for some ramen, udon, soba or wholewheat and enjoy them in the company of soup, meat, fish, veggies or perhaps tofu. This is a cute little canteen style takeaway place that’s fast becoming the lunch stop of choice for students and workers in the surrounding area. I found it to be perfectly tasty, and if you’re after something quick and easy the food not only slips down a treat but it’s great value too.

Big Bowl Noodle Bar is just like a fortune cookie, looking a little boring from the outside but containing an essential truth that really, you don’t know how you lived without. I sense that I’m going to be spending a lot more of my time in here! It looks like your average takeaway but on entering, I quickly realised that it’s a modern and fun little restaurant. Reasons I’m coming back: The shared starter combinations are varied and amazingly delicious and morish. Tick! It’s got cute personal touches, we were presented with a box of paper hearts to write on which then become part of a collage of love which sit under the glass of your table. Kitsch but I love it. Tick! The staff were dead friendly. 10% Student discount. I think so! The duck in Peking sauce. Good Lord– perfection. Tick! The portions are decent sizes so a friend and I shared a starter platter and a main between us, each got a soft drink and the bill was still under £16. Tick, Tick! P. S. Big Bowl is an understatement, they’re more like buckets. You shall get your fill here. Fortune cookie reads, «Aren’t you glad you just had a great meal?» Yup! Do you need anymore reasons? Thought not.
