British Heart Foundation

This is shaping up to be the best charity shop in Liverpool in terms of value and variety of stock. With Oxfam being the largest charity shop just up the road but frequently upping their prices, I’d always visit BHF first. They have a great selection of books; in fact you’ll find true classics and great contemporary fiction for next to nothing! They also stock some cool clothes; I got a really nice pair of hippyish beach shorts from here the other week for just £1.99.
They seem to have a lot of volunteers too, and often have posters requesting more, there seem to be a lot of students helping out, which gives the shop a really studenty vibe! They sell CDs and DVDs too, but they don’t seem to have a great selection of these, and price wise you might as well pop down to CEX in the station!

There is a dearth of decent charity shops in the centre of Liverpool so I’m pleased that the British Heart Foundation shop decided to set up here at the foot of the city’s alternative shopping district. It’s a good branch too with a great selection of Books, DVDs, Videos (last time I was in there I picked up a VHS copy of «Blade Runner», the original Theatrical Cut — with the Harrison Ford hardboiled voiceover; brilliant) and perhaps rarest and strangest of all, old PC games. They had three (count ‘em — three) point and click adventure classics last time I was in there: Escape from Monkey Island, Myst and Grim Fandango. If that means something to you then you should be almost as excited as I was.
The selection of clothes here is a little limited; not a lot for the guys and a just a rotation of pastel coloured two-​pieces for the girls (which would suit if you wanted to go as Jackie-​O to a fancy dress party I guess). They have a few watches and other pieces of jewellery in a glass cabinet by the till. They seem to prize them pretty highly but, honestly, I wouldn’t.
They don’t have very good vinyl here either but that just seems to be a growing trend in charity shops — I swear someone must weed out the good stuff at the bin-​bag-​on-​doorstep stage and sell it on before putting the «Sutherland Pipers do Vivaldi» boxsets in the red crate for the rest of us schmucks.

The British Heart Foundation is a small charity store selling clothes, books, music and DVD’s not to mention smaller items making it ideal for gifts. All products are pre-​owned in good condition and all donations proceed to good causes. The people that work there are all friendly volunteers and always give you a smile when you enter the shop.
This shop would appeal to anybody wishing to bag a bargain as every item is generally as cheap as you can get. Considering the genre and style of items they sell, it would appeal more to the middle aged and elderly but if you’re lucky and just passing by, there’s always the chance that’ll you’ll find something that exactly suits you!
