I much prefer using the infirmary Practice opposite the dental hospital than the much busier student health centre in the middle of campus. Although the infirmary does not offer the drop in nurse clinics that are available at student health, it is a much nicer alternative to student health as it is much more inviting and you feel more like a patient than cattle waiting for the slaughter! When ringing for an appointment in the morning I always try to get an appointment at the infirmary as it is usually much easier to get one as the vast majority of students trying to get an appointment are looking to go to the student health centre. Therefore your much more likely to get an appointment at a time of your choosing at the infirmary.

I’ve been using this GP since I was a student, as it was easier to use the various practices in town and in my opinion, my family GP was a bit naff and at least one of the doctors never listened to me, which put me off going. The practice at Pembroke Place is housed in an old building that used to be the Old Royal Infirmary and is now a Grade II listed building. Not much of the building is used as the surgery, so you don’t really get to see much of it, but apparently there is a chapel with a window depicting Florence Nightingale when she visited in the 1800s. The surgery itself is clean and quiet and gets a fair share of characters walking through the doors as it is one of only a few city centre-based practices. Staff are polite and efficient and I’ve never waited longer than 20 minutes to be seen.
