‘One more cup of coffee for the road’? Actually, I’d rather listen to Frazey Ford croon Dylan’s outlaw hymn than drink one more sip of Costa Coffee’s cappucino. The coffee tastes burnt and bitter and the milk is way too creamy. Ford however, has the combination just right:

I’m not one for coffee shops. They make me uneasy. There’s just something unwholesome about their trendiness and the way everybody inside looks like they’re subconsciously posing for Vogue. Bear in mind even when I scrub up I look like Frank Gallagher after he’s spent a night in a haystack. These things all come together to bring justification to my disquietude. If you’re expecting a ‘but’, ‘however’ or a ‘nevertheless’ here at the start of my second paragraph(insider’s tip: that’s normally the way I structure reviews) then you’ll be disappointed. The Bold Street branch of Caffe Nero, standing at the side-entrance to Central station, is pretty much just another place I tend to avoid. I don’t need coffee breaks that frequently. I’m not the President.

I’m not a lover of coffee but I do often go to coffee shops to buy the odd cold drink. I’d already tried drinks at other chains similar to the one I had today which was a vanilla frappé(iced milkshake). This costed me £2.85 but I knew I weren’t in for a cheap drink, given Caffe Nero is well known for selling quality drinks. I don’t mind paying the couple of pounds as long I enjoy it, however this time I was disappointed; as much as the drink claimed it was 100% pure, it did not taste natural at all and even if it was, it was too sweet, rich and watery. It was miles off the consistency of a proper milkshake. I was even offered cream on top, so I replied ‘yes’ but the guy who whizzed my drink somehow forgot. After a few sips, I left much to my disappointment. You will definitely find purer and better quality cold drinks elsewhere at places like Brew and Costa.

of all the franchise coffee shops, Caffe Nero is possibly my favourite. I know were all supposed to hate the large chains for there effect on small business, but i can not help myself. One sip of there Belgian chocolate hot chocolate drink and you will probably join me on the dark side! Whilst the shop itself isn’t the greatest places to sit, order the hot chocolate in question and i assure you that nothing else will matter!

Exercise your franchise is a term often used for those who are about to vote however in this case I am employing it to describe another example of the way business is now populating just about every high street. Caffe Nero has secured a prime spot just outside Liverpool Central Station side entrance on Bold Street and vies with the Body Shop two doors up for the title of smelliest shop on the road(in a good way of course). For those of you who have been living off planet for a few years Caffe Nero is a quality chain of coffee emporia which have just about taken over our village, town and city centres with decent brews and a good range of snack-style accompaniments from hot paninis to a frankly daunting selection of fresh baked muffins. If you, like me, find coffee and chocolate a combination hard to resist then the giant double chocolate muffin with a large cappuccino to eat in will suit you down in every way while you read your favourite newspaper and attempt to deal with the incredible sugar hit you are bound for.
