Unilocal Unilocal Unilocal and a partridge in a pear tree. You see Unilocaling is about expanding your boundaries. Unilocaling makes you want to explore the world of the unknown, and report back the findings. Why? As is the case with most questions the answer is simple. Because there still exists in the world thank God millions of kind souls who care for their fellow man. Under normal circumstances my discovering a new city entails seeking out certain forms of entertainment through certain outlets. Quality cinema facilities, restaurants, cafes, bars, boutique hotels, casino, leisurely parks just to name a few are all fundamental assets for an urban playground I seek as a consumer. However that is just me, the pattern changes albeit only a little for different individuals. You see Art galleries are not high on my agenda, but maybe they are on another person’s agenda. Ceri Hand gallery is the brain child of Ceri Hand(who else??) and is the first contemporary commercial art gallery in Liverpool opening its doors only two years ago. I do love the expansive white décor of the place which I think enhances the displayed Art and really lets it breathe. Amongst the Artists to have had their Art exhibited here include; Bedwyr Williams, Doug Jones, Eleanor Moreton, Henny Acloque, Jen Liu, Juneau Projects, Matthew Houlding and Mel Brimfield to name but a few. An upcoming exhibition which runs from 16th September for a month is a debut by Crowe & Rowlinson. They aim to present a world in which action is entangled with nostalgia and a confusion between function and deployment is the norm. I am intrigued indeed in other people’s confusion. With anything I observe I am obsessed with finding the source, who is the Artist what are their views. The agenda becomes clear if you probe the source. In this case I’m not that interested but I will pay it a visit just because I like the experience of visiting an Art exhibition, it is always full of interesting characters. Get your«hands» out your pockets bring those pointy fingers to the exhibition to see something different.

The Ceri Hand is probably the best kept secret in Liverpool — outside of the city however it’s another story as the CH is fast becoming one of Europe’s most talked about galleries. Apparently it was Liverpool’s first contemporary commercial galleries meaning if you have the money you can get your hands on some of the works here. Ceri’s expertise in the subject of art and curating means that there is a consistently high standard of work on display on a consistent basis meaning that it’s worth the short trip to the outskirts of the city centre to visit the über trendy loft conversion-style space in the style of SoHo or East End galleries in New York and London. It’s surprising that this place has only been open a couple of years. No doubt it has a long and prestigious future ahead.

This is an interesting space that curates up to six modern art exhibitions a year although it’s only been going a couple of years. The exhibitions are for solo artists and groups. Much of Ceri Hand’s work is in helping artists to grow and progress which she is able to do after working with established artists for over seventeen years. Its thanks to galleries like this that Liverpool can support so many artists. The main purpose of the gallery is to be a reputable commercial art gallery dealing in leading international contemporary art. This was otherwise missing in Liverpool.
